Aggressively Average Anglers

Ice fishing is a cold weather sport... duh. So you should dress warm... again... duh. But how warm? What ice fishing coats, bibs, hats and gloves do the trick? What are the best options for base layers? How much should you spend on your ice fishing essentials?
Well hopefully this video can help you answer those questions!
Today we focused on comparing my old cheap gear to my new expensive gear, and surprise, surprise there was a big difference.
New gear featured:
Strike Master Battle Coat: on sale at Cabela's for $112
Striker Ice Predator Bibs $230
North Face Gore Tex Gloves: $65
Warm hat.... $15
Wool blend base layer: $100 for top and bottom

I own a pair of the climate skriker bib and love them. The newer model bibs have a removable liner witch is a fantastic option when wearing in warmer weather on the boat.

Been rocking the good ol' Carhartt setup for YEARS. The second you kneel on the ice, you're done. Wet bibs. Windy lake. no fun. Just pulled the trigger on an Eskimo Legend suit. Wore it outside while running the dogs today. It was 30 degrees outside and I was 'uncomfortably warm'. The ice fishing manufacturers need to start making hunting gear. They'd make a killing.

The zipper to the hip is to get them off and on with boots on,,,,,, nothing to do with venting. A so the pocket with the opening is so you can get into your pants pockets.

Your base layer is too loose it should be tight fitting. Also base layers insulation does not matter it should wick moisture so polypropylene is best. If it does not touch your skin, tight fitting, it cannot "wick" away moisture. Thin is actually better since thick base layers tend to hold the moisture. Use a mid layer as insulation to adjust for very cold days. As For Bibs I like the "Klim Klimate" They are pricey at $380 but they are buy once cry once I can throw them on over street clothes and be comfortable doing 90 MPH on a 20 below F day. They are amazingly comfortable with padded knees and built with heavy cordura nylon for serious wear resistance, 100% gore tex with a waterproof seat design that is amazing and built so that it fits but you can move very comfortably. The snow skirt at the boot is rubberized so that it stays at the ankle while walking through deep snow, like your new bibs, but they also have the hook for the shell to attach at the boots. Your jacket is probably very sufficient but that "multi tool clip" is there for the "kill tether" when you fly off the snow machine it shuts the engine off. This post is long winded but even if you find a Klim store go in and try them on you will see the quality and feel the comfort, love your energy have a great day.

Bad info, you do NOT want your base layer skin tight. Your base layer should be loose to allow for a air to stay around the body, it will wick better this way. Each layer should be able to pocket air from one to the next.
