Striker Ice Climate Jacket got an all new redesign for 2018! They added new Climate bibs as well as a Trekker series that took over their Guardian series. Also new Attack gloves, Defender Gloves and Combat Gloves.
Honestly their stuff is so nice this could be the last Ice Fishing Suit you'll EVER need to buy!

My Wool HAT! Having a warm head and then hands are what I aim for first on the ice - since we lose like 60% of our body warmth thru the penthouse "radiator". Wool is a solid choice as wet or dry it will still do the job, & if you become sweated up you won't freeze. Most other fibers can't compare....well unless you have a supply of Musk Ox wool - and that cost is off the charts~!!!

I resisted wearing my winter boots for "comfortable hunting boots" until the last couple of weeks last year. I hadn't put them on in 15 years - like brand new.... *face palm* Wow - warm and waterproof - not sure why I'm so stubborn sometimes

As lame as a response as this is to my own question - I would honestly say I don't go ANYWHERE in the winter without a sweatshirt layer. My coats, pants and hats can change - but not wearing a sweatshirt

I live way down in coastal NC, I just bought the Guardian bibs to wear for all weather kayak wintertime speckled trout fishing. I have had other foul weather gear in the past, but the Striker Ice gear far exceeded my expectations and any other brand previously owned.. Really great products. I will certainly get the jacket soon. Although the temps rarely go below 15F, the ambient humidity and wind are our nemesis, and these perform flawlessly. It will be interesting to see how they hold up long term to saltwater, but I suspect they will be fine.

Fished yesterday in my suit with a starting temp of 6 degrees and gusts to 30mph -- no issues other than my hands taking fish off :)

I go with the Predator bibs and jacket here in Illinois. It keeps me warm on the quad with no problems the wind just does not go through it ! I just wear a pair of long johns underneath the bibs and my Striker Shack Shirt under my coat along with my Milwaukee vest. I hole hop a lot but we set up and fish inside once we find fish.

I tend to layer a lot like you are talking about. There are very few times I would need to get the full out climate bibs. I love my predator bibs and with enough layers the jacket would be great.... just when we get that minus 15-25 and wind and cuts through you lol

Belteshazar yes I’m in Northern Illinois so we get ice during a normal cold winter no problem. But we travel all over to ice fish from the Dakotas to Simcoe in Ontario and a lot of places in between !!

I don’t target Lake Trout when I go there but I guess it’s a good place for them if you can get out to the deep water. I always go for the perch and it’s a great place for big perch !! It’s 9 hrs for me from NE Illinois so it would be quite a drive for ya !!
