"Kentucky Afield" TV goes adrift on the Kentucky River this weekend, July 7 and 8, to show that with a trotline, you can do more fishing by 9 a.m. than most people do all day.
We join "Lardo" of the Moron Brothers singing duo as he and Tim Farmer seek the secret to setting a trotline so that morning sets the hook on catfish.

Man I hope we never lose this lifestyle. Grew up w a dad that fished and hunted and had me out there from 7yrs old on. Spent a lot of time in the everglades in airboats at his camps on stilts. Hunt deer by day and catch catfish off the dock. At night my dad and his hunt buddies would fire up his airboat and send me out by myself so j could gig frogs. Man i miss it.

I live in KY and used to set trotlines as a kid every year on vacation. It's a lot of work checking your lines at sunrise and dusk, but you'll have more than enough catfish and turtle to eat. I cracked up at that one comment. "I think they taste better than chicken. I could eat 'em with one foot in the far (fire)!" LMAO

Lord this brings back many, many fun-filled memories of running trot lines on the Tombigbee River near Jackson, Alabama. My uncle has a camp on the river where we would often spend the entire weekend fishing. It's true, catfish will bite almost anything if given enough time. We once used ivory soap on a drop line and did catch one catfish. The river is heavily used by tugs pushing barges down to Mobile and up north. They use to drag heavy chains to run the bottom and bust the lines. Buggers

Do I qualify for being a Southern Boy? I live in Central Arizona. When I was a kid in The Great State of Texas, my Uncle taught me how to fish for catfish, Both with a trout line and with a pole. The most fun I ever had! He knew where all the good lakes were, and we lived next to the Red River, but mostly just pulled carp from it. So much bone in carp, we had to pressure cook them to be able to even eat them. Catfish is still my favorite fried in cornmeal. My Aunt had the best recipe for cooking catfishin cornmeal in a cast iron skillet too!

Me and buddy went down to the river over yonder and was hoping to catch some fish when we saw a limb with a lot of string and lures on it from people trying to catch ol Tom the big catfish that was down there but nobody could catch em. So me and budy had a plan, we got tied our line off with a chain and hooked it to a nearby oak tree and cast our bait in there and when we came back that oak tree was nearly pulled into the water so we hooked the chain to the horses and once we undid it from the tree we waited for the team of horses to pull it out...well last thing we saw was the horses ears going under water bout 30 feet off shore....me and buddy called it a day

There sure isn't anything lazy about running lines. I just found your channel and glad I did. You OBVIOUSLY have yrs of experience and know what you are doing. I don't see any guys that cut the tails off & let the fish bleed out. It is truly best for the fish to be alive. Wack tails and let them hang(head up) and pump the blood out. .... just wondering why more folks don't do that. My way is certainly not the only way. I notice that the fish tastes even better, when bled out.
