That is total crap, Freestyle 50. She and Glenn are friends but she and Cher are friends as well. She was celebrating her friend. She was supposed to make an ass of herself because someone LOST? Meryl was just as deserving for Iron Weed. Glenn's characterization was ridiculously over the top (which was fine because it worked well for the part). Cher did a good job in Moonstruck. All of them were deserving.

Selina Davis not anymore? A 45 year old career of unparalleled success and peer respect because of what a monster did? Or wait, was it _her_ who raped those women? Jane Fonda knew and said in a primetime interview she was ashamed she didn’t speak up. Brad Pitt knew, so did Gwyneth, Argento, Damon, and many others. Weinstein’s people put systems in place so huge talents like Meryl wouldn’t know according to Cher and common sense. Do you think someone with such ethic and human dignity would cover up a crime like that? There are so many other big studios who would kill to have her, she hasn’t had to audition since the 80s because roles ARE WRITTEN for her. And after 3 Oscars, a trillion Golden Globes, Baftas... 9 more Oscar nods than Nicholson, who holds second place? Does she need the guy? NO. So don’t be ignorant and go for the bait, shameful

I’m a big fan of Meryl Streep, Glenn Close, and Holly Hunter….but I have to say that Cher was pretty extraordinary in this movie. Of course Meryl and Holly have won Oscars, but it’s criminal that Glenn has never won, especially for Albert Nobbs (I didn’t think too highly of Fatal Attraction; revolting story, and Glenn was over the top).

Cher was the crowd favorite as they exploded into cheers and applause when the gorgeous and elegant Paul Newman announced her as the winner. This “at home” movie lover was also thrilled to see her win. She was also excellent in “Silkwood,” the movie referenced in her acceptance speech in which she acted with Meryl Streep and Kurt Russell. That film should also be on every movie lover’s must watch list. I’m glad Oscar said “Take Me Home,” Cher. 🎶🎬❤️🎬🎶

It's unbelievable but I think the feel-good aspect of Moonstruck was a deciding factor even though Close's performance was unquestioned. I've always loved Cher's acting chops, as most comedians really do rise to task of serious Oscar worthy performances. In a perfect world the 1987 Best Female Actor should've been a tie.

people claiming Glenn Close was robbed clearly: a) haven't seen the rest of the nominees b) have no idea how awards season worked back then (and still does) Being generous Glenn was most likely 3rd at best. Holly Hunter won all the critics awards that year, Sally Kirkland surprisingly won the Golden Globe over Glenn (which at the time was the most important precursor of the season) thanks to a very clever campaign, Cher had among other things: *the advantage of being in not only a Best Picture nominee that also won 2 more Oscars, also had Witches of Eastwick and Suspect that year *she was at the top of stardom not only as actress, but also as singer, because around that time (november 10, 1987) her 18th album was released and people knew her since her days with Sonny Bono *had the factor of being snubbed for Mask in 85, for which she won the Best Actress prize at Cannes *was a previous nominee for Silkwood *worked with directors such as Mike Nichols, Robert Altman and Peter Bogdanovich, so clearly Hollywood was not going to resist the opportunity to validate her as serious actress. so this nomination and win didn't come out of nowhere and as iconic Glenn's performance is (and to be clear, i really like), she was not going to win for a role so unsympathetic in a movie that was rather divisive at the time regardless of being a box office hit, a lot of people truly hated Fatal Attraction and that was decisive.
