"Saturday Love" is a top ten US R&B hit, and a top ten UK hit song by American R&B singers Cherrelle and Alexander O'Neal; released in October 1985, and where Cherrelle Eden formerly got her name. The song appeared on Cherrelle's gold album, High Priority, on Tabu Records and included an extended spoken dialogue introduction skit set in a bar.
In 2007, O'Neal re-recorded the song for his album Alex Loves..., released in February 2008. This version featured the vocals of Bianca Lindgreen, a long-time friend of O'Neal's. Also in 2008, "Saturday Love - 2008 Remixes" was released in a special edition EP featuring 11 club/house remixes as well as an a cappella. O'Neal and Cherrelle reunited and performed the song at the 2011 BET Awards and afterwards, presented the Best New Artist Award.

I have to say, looking back at the 80’s when I was in my 20’s, Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis productions like this was basically our smooth soundtrack , all of their smooth laid back jams were always on the radio, song after song , Al,of the days of hanging out , dressing cool, the music just set the tone.

Love this song, I haven’t heard it for years. It’s so smooth and has such a good feel to it. I also like that they don’t t try to out sing one another, which many other duets do.

A great RnB classic I remember from my teens when I was 18yrs, the African American RnB musicians still used the gospel style of singing back then it was awesome!!! But my age group also latched on to 60s & 70s music as well because of our parents, they had music from Aretha Franklin to Marvin Gaye, from Jimi Hendrix to Led Zepplin, and the Isley brothers to Bob Marley and the Wailers etc etc. But I remember one of my hometown bros in the 80s trying to get me into NWA's music but I was never amused by that type of sound. I guess I must've known somehow that it was African American gangster type music because they used the N word to describe themselves, which only African American gangsters would do because they hate and fight each other, whereas normal everyday African Americans consider it an offense or an insult. But I must say they do come up with some great beats and melodies, it's just the lyrics that ruin their music, peace and love sister 💕

Alexander and Cherrelle have another do it or two together but also have their own amazing body of work. Their music was produced by the fantastic duo of Jam and Lewis who became the producers of Janet Jackson’s first Big hit album, Control.

Love Sunday Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Saturday🎵🎶. Classic Took a while for me to get that part. Still a jam cookout jam. Cherelle had another hit Didn't Mean To Turn You On, which was covered by Robert Palmer and became an even bigger hit. I miss the duets too.

God, I remember hearing this back in 1985, and it was everywhere. Cherrelle hated this song with a passion and didn't want to record it. Jimmy Jam told her that this song would make her career, and to not let this opportunity pass her by. Given that both artists and Jam and Lewis were signed to Tabu records, this would put all of them on that map, and that's what it did. The lyrics on each verse are the same, you just don't notice it much because you have two singers with very different styles and vocal ranges. Saturday Love was the biggest selling 12inch single in 1985, reaching number 2 on the black singles chart, and 26 pop. Don't lose your mind, the black singles chart was later re-named the R&B chart about 1993/94 by Billboard.

Both of them have great solo albums. Many of them produced by Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis (Janet Jackson's producers, SOS Band, many others)

Great cut. Their "Never Knew Love Like This", also by Terry Lewis and Jimmy Jam is just as good. Alexander had such a great voice. It's a shame how he squandered it. Listen to him do "What's Missing" and "Fake". How did he squander that great voice? Poor diet, poor hygiene, and, well, as Rick James said, "Cocaine is a hell of a drug".
