Usually professional sports players take note on how to defeat opponents. Helps to remember what you need or should do situationally. I guaranty he does this when he sit downs with coaches.

Ok this was your best lesson yet, not because you got somebody famous, but because he was a great student. He asked questions that I've always had about high level concepts that I've never been able to get answered because I just don't have a coach. His questions about open and closed positions and about rushing through explanations about trading bishops was super helpful. I feel like i, a shitty chess player, finally got some answers to questions I've always had!

I almost get the feeling he's a great student because he's famous not despite. To get where he has in basketball he has to be a smart kid, want to learn and improve. And they're the same qualities he showed throughout this entire lesson. This is a superb video.

It's amazing how poorly our schools systems prepare people for success. Physically taking notes is literally 101 on how to improve and remember. Yet so few do it.

I like how Gordon listens and interacts with Levy . . The way he asks questions for beginners and they way he realizes . . It won't take long for someone like Gordon Hayward to become decent good in chess if he keeps his enthusiasm . . . Also well done for Levy he literally spoon feeds gordon and the way he breaks down the ideas is something what we call proper way of teaching. . Professionally well-done . . Both display good ettiquet . . . Looking forward for more well-known people, from different fields, to embrace chess. . .

@larry johnson Yep, Klay play with Igoudala when they both were in Warriors and Iggy told this to journalists ... and Klay is probably one of best chess player in NBA because he said he got chess lessons in college, so he must know some theory

Personally, this was maybe the most beneficial video for my chess improvement. As a ~1000 players I have exactly the same thoughts in a game. So, if you could do more of those videos, I would highly appreciate it. Not only with celebrities of course. In general, having kind of a check list that I can follow in game like: 1. What are my opponents weaknesses 2. What is my strategy 3. Who has which bishop on the board 4. Who defends the opponents king 5. How do I gain space? Would be awesome! I feel like many players are being stuck ~1000 because it is much more difficult do develop from there

This was awesome! Chess is so similar to basketball believe it or not! As a player of both, I can say that they both involve recognizing patterns (in basketball it's patterns in opponent team's defense) and developing strategies based on opponent's weaknesses

Some of the best basketball players can easily read defense (IE Lebron, Steph, Luka), which makes them so good. Chess are basketball are very closely connected.

I have to say this content is amazing. Funny thing is Gordon Hayward asked the two questions that I would have asked open/closed position and bishops and pawn covering opposite colour squares. Never fully got that before. This KZfaq content is the reason I bought your course over any other site. Please keep on doing these instructional videos. What you are doing is working 👏

Very informative! Hayward has the mindset of ~1000 but the confidence to ask pointed questions and push Levy to explain things. Loved the takes on middle games especially. As a Jazz fan it’s nice to have a reason to like Hayward again ;) Great work guys, thanks.

The content on this channel is always super clear and helpful...but this was particularly helpful because GH was not embarrassed to ask the 1000 level questions that I have and slow down ideas that those of us that hover around the single millennium mark only kind of have a grasp on.

This is actually very instructional for most people just starting out as you don't want to always be just defending or developing just for the sake of it but to actually plan attacks and the ideas behind those plans.

Right here you can see one of the reasons why are people like Gordon top athletes. He understands HOW to get maximum from coaching and how to extract all the value from people that are sharing wisdom with him. This whole mindset of being 100% focused, taking notes and asking perfect questions. Its clear hes used to work with coaches in very efficient manner :) Watching this great coach sharing his wisdom in combination with this great "reciever" that asks all the right questions gives inherently more value to us mere viewers aswell, as we get more information from it. For me this was the most valuable video on you channel so far. Big props to both you as a great mentor and Gordon as great mentee. Thanks :)

Thanks guys. The concept of putting pawns on the same colored squares of a captured bishop never occurred to me as a beginner. Obviously it is situational, but it is a useful way of compensating defensively or taking advantage my opponent's weakness.

Gordon Hayward is one of the nicest pro athletes out there. I had the honor of helping his grandfather when they came to Milwaukee and play the Bucks as apart of my mobility assistance job at Fiserv Forum. They were such a lovely family and they clearly raised a great son.
