LOVED the piece the spalted maple did wonders to change what would be a blander area. I never dreamed of using a core of plywood I bet it does prevent warping.

The spalted maple really stands out. I was surprised that the walnut rotted so much in just a few years. I guess the insect damage had been working on the interior of the log for a lot longer. Beautiful board even with the challenging material.

Wish I could craft fine wok like this. I'm going to look through more of your videos to see if you ever make items from the perspective of those of us that don't have bandsaws and belt sanders. I've got a good table saw, miter saw, planer, hand held sander, hand held router, and jig saw. My shop has no room for joiner, belt sander, or bandsaw unfortunately. This the first video I've watched and I will be looking at more of your work. Keep up the great work and content.

A method that I’ve found really helpful. Quarter the fresh logs and let them dry in quarters before milling them up. You get smaller widths, but they are all quarter or rift sawn and doing it this way minimizes checking.

ALL of yours boards are beautiful but I especially love the use of Spalted Maple for the light colored squares and border strip. I have a shed with 15 year old dried Walnut and some Maple that my neighbor and I milled from storm damaged trees; this would be an excellent project.. Thanks for the inspiration.

Just saw the video of you four years ago making a similar looking chessboard. I would love to have a professional chessboard like this so I would be so damn glad having such a wonderful art of handwork for my future chessgames instead of cardboard which I use now because of financial reasons. Would definitely be a generation overloving chessboard in my family and I would hold it in honor. Thank you for the nice video and keep up the awesome work!
