The thing that I admire about Juji is although he is a badass, he still has no problem with humbling himself to be taught by others. That is a true sign of a great man, and is sorely lacking in much of today's society....

I don’t know but suspect what the coach is trying to teach with the “fall away from the weight” is similar to what Dave Tate would say about pushing yourself into the bench. Also similar to Chris Duffin teaching to get to get the hips between the weight and upper back during a dead rather than trying to pick the weight up

I've been powerlifting or bodybuilding for 20+ years and only recently (past two years) have learned that in order to maximize the efficiency of the mind:muscle connection, you have to think about "staying on the outside" or "furthest away" between the muscle being worked and how you apply the movement. A lot of recent BB videos between all you guys and #Ben_Pakulski, #Dorian_Hamilton, Doucette, Jonni Shreve, Jeff Nippard, and #Mike_Israetel -- all I'm noticing is that you're really focusing on driving through to the "outside" of the movement. For example, here on the pec-deck you can see it. And when they say "push with the elbows, relax the shoulders," what you're actually doing is forcing more load to the center (or the furthest opposite side of the movement if you're doing lat work for example). Everything becomes easier when you think about it this way and all the "real science" guys like Israetel and BPAK keep demonstrating this. So thank you guys for helping us see this. I have noticed an unbelievably TREMENDOUS difference in growth and strength in the past two years for this reason. THIS is what ppl really need to be doing before EVER thinking they're plateauing and in turn prematurely/unnecessarily resorting to AAS. Edit: Big thanks to #Mike_Van_Wyck

He's essentially coaching a powerlifting competition style bench. Really interesting, anecdotally I know people who really build their chest after switching to competition style pressing. It gets a bad rep because of low ROM, but keeping your shoulders down really let's you use your chest and back.

Pretty much, but it's effective for chest and keeps a ton of pressure on it. All I've ever done for chest is some comp style benching and a few machines and it's never been an issue to develop it. He's totally right that if you are just staying flat back you're turning most of these presses into shoulder and tricep exercises.

Juji, think about squeezing the lower traps down and back as much as possible. that plus slightly flaring the lats helps to keep the chest active. Might help with the “reverse shrug” concept. Also, full extension of the arms causes your scapula to come forward. Keep it in the ROM needed to keep your chest under constant tension. Full ROM doesn’t matter if you don’t feel the muscle working. Find the muscle in a range you can keep tension and stay in that range.

juji you look epic dude, I have never seen you with a chest pump like this video. I was having very similar issues with my chest form. i would over engage my shoulder and deeper inner chest rotators muscles. I now think of 2 things when i set up - pin the shoulder blades in and down (toward your butt) for the entire time - as you push think of rotating your arms down and together, EVEN if you dont actually rotate the weights as they move (watch your elbows rotating). I think as though I am turning my arms away from my head, trying too restrict my shoulders on purpose but still making my arms push forward.

I've always hated machines for chest pressing. They all focused on the contraction, whereas in my personal experience I get the best growth from movements with a healthy weighted stretch at the bottom. My own example would be Hammer Strength incline vs dumbell incline. An interesting video nonetheless. I'd love to see this guy on more videos. Me personally my chest grows like a weed and always gets DOMS. Something for real delts or the long head of the triceps would be nice.
