Just came here after listening to his 54’ Mr Sandman cover and now I’m sad. Seeing a life go by that fast. Sometimes that’s really how it is :/. RIP Chet Atkins.

Anyone looking at Chet's facial expressions can see that he's pleased with how this tune is going as they played it. No fears on his part for sure, he is hammering out his masterful work easily. Great piece.

What a groovy gas. No need for drums, the acoustic guitar kept our foot tapping. The electric piano added color. The bass gave a solid bottom. And Chet, simply beautiful. Single note lines, tasteful harmonies, a little bit of jazz. See young players, one does not need to play a thousand meaningless notes per minute to get a point across. One does not need annoying distortion pedals and distracting effects. This direct music moves people’s hearts.

Chet Atkins one of the greatest masters of guitar in the world. Classic guitar positions and technic with super execution and personality too. But Stanley Jordan is one of the most innovative and surprising guitar players of all the times ! A new style never seen before.

I wish this could be the type of music they play on talk shows late at night instead of of the pop shit that usually gets air airtime u_u
@MisterRlGHT6 жыл бұрын
You can blame Chet for the foul shit that passes as contemporary country music -- as RCA''s VP in charge of country for decades, he pioneered & championed the (horrific) idea that country needed to assimilate pop & rock elements to thrive, thus cementing his seat in the ugliest circle of hell. Good guitar player, but O! the damage he wrought.

The pickups aren't P 90s they're Ray Butts pickups (he's the inventor of hummbucker pickups) (according to Chet Atkins)

Very nice rendition by Chet. That's a Gibson he is playing, dressed up like a Gretsch that he used to promote. I wonder if this was during his association with Gibson.

Not a gibson !
@SuperCarver20119 жыл бұрын
It has the Gibson "thistle" headstock pearl emblem which is predominately a Gibson ornament. It has the Gibson style tuners. It is the wine red Gibson Chet Atkins Country Gentleman guitar, manufactured in the Nashville factory for him and designed to have the Gretsch sound that he was familiar with.
@jean-lucbersou7589 жыл бұрын
All my apologises ! You are right ...and this Gibson is called "Country Gentleman" as it is explained on Chet Atkins/Gibson link ...and your examination of details is perfect !
@SuperCarver20119 жыл бұрын
This is one of those strange events in Chet's history and Gretsch. From what I have been able to find out Gretsch sold to Baldwin in 1970, quality went down. A disgusted Chet Atkins withdrew his endorsement in 1979 and started his relationship with Gibson in 1980. Gibson started to make these for him loosely based on the Gretsch 6122 but with humbuckers instead of the Gretsch Super-Trons as well as replacing the original tone switches with a special tone pot. Gbson also made the Tennessean model for him and he endorsed them. The Gretsch family bought back the name in 1989 and Terada Japan started to build them again to the original Gretsch specs.
