I really thought he was going to mention Stanley Johnson or James Young. I now collab with teams in Fiba and Europe trying to get small school college kids jobs playing pro bal and now realizing scouting is the most difficult job in the NBA. And the only skill that translate weill is a kids hard work and hustle! & Does he love the game or does he let ve the money only!

I think Holmgren's biggest risk is that if he goes to the pros and gets injured before he's filled out, he'll be injury-prone for his (probably short) career.

I am less worried about Chet's skinny physique than I am Zion's ever-expanding physique. Zion's weight of three hundred and who knows how many pounds, is much harder on the body than being skinny; even super skinny. There are plenty of expert nutritionists and sports med people out there that can help Chet add productive muscle that will be helpful in preventing injury without messing up his game. I remember people saying the same thing about Durant being rail thin. And he stayed super skinny for a few years. So we'll see about Chet.... and Zion.

I really don't think injury is the biggest worry with his size. To me the bigger concern is that he will never be able to protect the rim at a high level because he's too skinny and guys can just bump him out of the way. He reminds me a lot defensively to KG in that he looked amazing coming off the weakside to block shots but every time Tim Duncan or Shaq got him down low they would just push him out of the way.

I'm not sure if I get Greg Oden as a tough evaluation, he was a no brainer evaluation as a prospect. He was 7'0'' with ridiculous defensive instincts, elite athletic profile, and a history of winning everywhere he played. Injuries in the pros were just unlucky, I don't really think there was much of a red flag injury history with his legs before he was drafted.

I think the thing that scared a lot of people off was that he was 19 but he had the step and gait of a 60 year old ex NBA player who has had knee replacement surgery. A lot of this was due to Oden having one foot that was shorter than the other by around an inch. That's the same issue that Sam Bowie and Derrick Rose both have and it almost always ends up causing a lot of physical issues on the longer leg during an NBA 82 game season plus playoffs. Take a look back at the 07 draft and watch both Oden and Durant walk up to the podium. Durant glides and Oden plods. It becomes noticable once you realize what Oden was dealing with.

As a Gonzaga Fan whos watched all of his games, his flashes are insane, bringing the ball up after blocking a shot and pulling up for three is just crazy. But his hunch all the time is concerning but hes shown good coniditioning considereing how fast Gonzaga plays. Hes shooting around 40% from three which is crazy as well. 5-10 yrs I could see the, "cant believe team X didnt take him with the first pick or whatever" or "cant believe team X used their pick on him and passed up on player X"

And don't have to worry about a Joel Embiid, Giannis, etc as he can play easily with a true 5 in more of a hybrid 4/5 slot. Which he's shown playing next to Timme. But I'm with you. I could see him being an absolute all timer, or just a complete disaster. Ugly, ugly form on his shot; could blow by anyone off the dribble but was always surprised by help at the rim and so couldn't finish when he got there; clearly hadn't played against well-coached competition prior to college ball. I think nowadays it’s much easier for a prospect to not have any comparisons and make it because the coaching is so much smarter. Coaches are learning how to utilize guys and add players that complement the style of play. Think of zion for example. Now obviously he’s got a lot of injuries so maybe it won’t work out, but when healthy that guy is a unicorn. Only comparison is probably Charles Barkley. But to be 300+ pounds and fly like him at 6’7 is unheard of. Yet the pelicans started adding the right pieces around him, and if he can get healthy that team is dangerous

Chet is a similar prospect to Bol Bol (minus the injury, of course!). Tall, skinny, awkward gait, but can block shots and rebound like crazy and can step out and shoot the three. Bol averaged 21 pts, 9.6 rebs, 2.7 blocks, and shot 52% from three. Compare that to Chet: 14.2 pts, 9.8 rebs, 3.7 blocks, and 39% from three. Bol unfortunately looks like a potential bust, but was considered a top 10 pick prior to his surgery in college. It will be interesting to see if Chet (and maybe even Bol!) can translate well to the NBA.

@@aroncampos5720 Mo Bamba is another comparison (12.9 pts, 10.5 rebs, 3.7 blocks in college) My point is just that I don't think Chet is an unprecedented prospect. Tall, lanky, can shoot, questions about ability to play as a big man at the next level. Even Kevin Garnett and Kevin Durant had criticism of being too skinny. Chet has a glaring weakness, but it's something he could easily fix in 1-2 years.

I mean, Porzingis / Christian Wood come to mind immediately. Holmgrem moves a lot and is probably more skilled with the ball, but the NBA is grown dudes. It’s hard to pass on a guard like Ivy, but I don’t think the Ja comparisons are fair at all, I don’t think it’s even particularly close. Smith is the #1 at this point, but I don’t think it’d be crazy to grab Holmgrem 1 and put him at the PF spot

There's a lot of point guards that weigh more than Holmgren. So he will need 4 to 5 years to fill out his body which fits the timeline for Orlando or OKC. You can't teach size and you can't teach feel for the game. His game fits perfectly for the modern NBA. If he can become Rudy Gobbert that can shoot 3's at 35 to 40%, that's a scary player. He can pick n pop or pick n roll. He can even stay at the elbow 3 to force the opposing team's big man to be further from the paint to open up driving lanes. Imagine teams like the Warriors or the Celtics had a player like Holmgren. That would be disgusting.

There's no way I pick Chet Holmgren with the number 1 pick! No way. It's not only because that body will have a tough time holding up in an 82 gm NBA schedule, or that most players built like him spend more time on IR than on the court. It's that Jaden Ivey is clearly the best all-around talent in this draft. That kid was raised by WNBA players. He has sound fundamentals plus elite athleticism.

I could see Chet ending up being a very good or even great NBA player, but I think he still needs time. Year 3 or 4 I could see him putting up good numbers as a starter and by year 5 or 6 being an all-star. But for a high pick, you want them making an impact today. If he goes in a high pick and is expected to start and play well right away... I think he'll end up broken. He needs at least a year with a pro dietician force feeding him food and making him gain at least 30 pounds, and dominating the g-league.

Jabari Parker won 4 straight state titles and dominated his freshman year of college. He was averaging 20 a game when he first got hurt. He was well on his way to be a legit star so it's not fair to him to act like it was outrageous for him to go before embiid. It just so happened injuries destroyed his career instead of embiid, which shows the unpredictability of the draft.

None of those "hard to evaluate" guys BS mentioned (outside of lamelo ball) exceeded the best expectations of the evaluation. They answered their own "chet" question.
