This is a 2010 Chevrolet Traverse. This car was previously serviced for these components and they couldn't get the timing right. So they towed it to us after they kept getting correlation codes. Everything was already new, which is why I reused it all.
Just be patient and check yourself as many times as you need. Its better to get it right the first time!
I realize the outro messed up. No worries.
You will need a specific tool that i was shown using to lock the cams and prevent unwanted rotating. You can get them for $20 on amazon.

Hey man, I recently did this to my sons car. His mom gave it to him after it jumped time with her. I have a lift at home so I dropped the engine out and pulled everything apart. I ended up putting in all new lifters, rocker arms, the left bank intake valves and keepers, oil pump, water pump, all new timing set, head gaskets, intake and valve cover gaskets, hoses, belts, HP fuel pump and a few other odds and ends. I noticed after i lined all the timing up and rotated the engine a few times that the tensioners cycled in and out on the timing chains. Seems like that is going to be rather noisy while running. It's up and running fine now, just seems like a wild noisy design. I used your video to help along the way. I appreciate you taking the time to make it.

That's awesome! I'm glad it could help. They are kinda noisy with the injectors clicking away. Once the tensioners are filled with oil they quite down as I'm sure you noticed. You did a ton to it I hope you guys get a ton of miles out of her. Always nice to save a car from scrap. 😊

@@CarMechaNick getting flustered with it now. Ran it for a day and started getting reduced engine power with low fuel rail pressure. Changed the sensor and the HP pump. Then it started with a top end rattle, multiple cylinder misfire codes and still low fuel pressure code. I parked it in my shop for the time being. It almost acts like it spit out some rockers. I will have to pull the intake and valve covers and see what’s up.

@@CarMechaNick yes, I put everything new except for the cams and cam sprockets. It’s been fine till I pulled off the HP pump and rotated the engine forward a little to index the cam lobe so the pump wasn’t under any pressure when bolting on the new one. I cleared the low pressure code and as soon as I started it back up, the check engine light was flashing and I heard some rattling. I turned it off and scanned it, 5 codes. 4 out of 5 were misfire codes and one was the low pressure code on the fuel rail. Not sure if rotating the engine caused a rocker arm to come out, break or what. It definitely sounds like a top end rattle and it’s running like crap. When my feelings aren’t so hurt, I’ll open it up and see what’s up lol. I have spent 3 weekends and about $2k in parts piddling with this for my son.

Nice learning from you. You're the first vid I see where you put the sealant on the engine. I'll need to do that too considering I didn't pull the engine. Don't want it getting all over the place when I position the cover. Which sealant did you use? Permatex Ultra Black?

Hey thanks for the vid! What did you do at 12:30 with the two wrenches?? I have a bit of slack in the right side timing chain, did u crank the cam phaser and the crankshaft a little too tighten the right and main chain up?

So you have to rotate the motor slightly to get the marks for the final chain lined up. After everything is together you can pull the pin for the tensioners and rotate the engine by hand to get rid of your slack.

Hi, nice video!! I am about to do this in car on my son's 2007 Saturn Aura 3.6l. P0017 Code. I've changed all actuators and sensors on the right side. Question is, how often have you seen a bad cam phaser? I am just worried I'd get it all back together and one of the phasers was bad!! I'm thinking of just changing both right side phasers since that side usually has all the issues.

@jonnieves7654
@jonnieves7654 4 жыл бұрын
The issue with these engines were [1]. the original right side gasket was designed wrong, thereby burning oil prematurely. [2]. The engine counts Cam revolutions instead of time and mileage thereby, [3] Engines ECM sends wrong information to dashboard info of when to change the oil. Originally, oil is changed about every 5k to 7k according to GM engineering. Instead, on this engine, if you change the oil every 3k 'maybe' 4k, it will run quite some time. If VVT Solenoids & Oil-Pump are ok, no need to change. I share this info thru countless hours of research on the GM High-Feature engines. Also, I myself have a 2012 Buick LaCrosse 3.6L FWD vehicle and I did the entire Timing-Chain Kit along with Water-Pump, Spark-Plugs, all new gaskets without removing the engine in my driveway. 3 days of work. She has 263,348 miles on here, and still running like a champ. If any VVT Solenoid codes you can change them in about 1 1/2 hrs.in the driveway, if need be. @CarMechaNick
@CarMechaNick 3 жыл бұрын
I think they are recommending it to avoid the chance of any issues with the original engine. There can be big issues with this 3.6L. Though you can use the later model engines that are less problematic. You have to swap over intake manifold and swap over the composite valve covers from aluminum. If the bottom end is knocking, like a rod. I would definitely replace the engine instead of fixing it.
