Brakes are gravy train for the most part, unless you're working on light trucks or work/delivery vans. I think the reason why everyone likes watching them, is to see the different kinds of hardware and caliper designs the manufacturers use. It's easier for someone to do their own brake jobs at home on some jackstands in the driveway or garage when they have a general idea of what everything looks like and comes apart before they start taking it apart.

There was a time, say 1930s to 1950s, when most gas stations had a hose that went Ding! when someone drove up to the pump, and then someone would come out to pump the gas, wash the windshield, check the oil, and collect the money. If a station didn't have the Ding! hose, or it was broken, it was proper etiquette to give a quick toot on the horn to announce that you were there. But that was about 80 years ago, and things don't work that way anymore. (And some jerk laying on their horn back then would also discover that nobody showed up, or when they did it was to tell them to move on and not come back.)

For some reason a lot of people enter the driveway, park at the end so no one can get in off the street, and block the workshop. One guy was told he would have to wait, so he locked his car in the middle of the driveway and walked off down the road.
@hungryjack8032
@hungryjack8032 2 жыл бұрын
@@lwilton really not that long ago. Still had majority of stations like that in the 80's. That all disappeared in the 90's when shop owners realized getting rid of two bays that produced $100,000 a year each could be replaced with food and drinks that produced $1,000,000 a year. Also went from two skilled pay jobs to three or four no skill jobs that could also extend hours.

Forty years working customer service in retail has destroyed and turned me into a misanthrope by the truest of definitions. Wish I got a dollar for every time I was assisting one customer with others waiting, and the self entitled no time to wait individual interrupts with that "I just have a quick question". There's no such thing as a quick question in retail, or auto repair I'm sure. Best part watching your 613th brake job video; when you rambles on about the family. Busy as you are, it's awesome you take that important time with your kids, playing video games, whatever. It's just nice to see how simply grounded you are, and quite the inspiration for others. Faith in humanity in believe the phrase is called!

I used to think it was just the "new" generation that think they are special and entitled to priority treatment. But no, I see people from every age group come into the ER and think they should be seen before all the other people that have been waiting, and worse, are insulted when you tell them they will have to wait their turn. Some buy into the old saying, "squeaky wheel gets the grease", well, not always. Sometimes, we need to have security usher them out, they are so outraged by not getting seen first. About the several brake job videos, we just enjoy watching a quality repair job of every sort, and no two jobs are done exactly the same as the issues are often varied, as are some of the tools used to overcome these issues. Thank you, Eric O for your videos.

Aaaaa. Saturday morn, the sun is shining, the garden is growing, coffee beside me, and an SMA vid in front of me. Yes, life is good.

Reminds me of when I stopped by to meet you and mrs o and the family. I remember the office having a couple people in there talking with you. You were doing your thing. I politely waited for you to greet me. Now after watching you rant. I’m glad I didn’t barge in and say hi I’m Jon from Ohio!Where’s my SMA stickers!!!! All demanding like!! I wouldn’t have anyways. It was the end of the day before closing. I felt bad enough to have kept you from going home on time. Thanks for your time SMA

I certainly appreciate that you take the time to bring us along, even on these "bread and butter" jobs. I'm sure running the camera doubles the time it takes to do these projects. Thank you for all the great content.

I was a nice to everyone man, then they turned my town into a tourist trap. So many self entitled jerks that frequent that style of establishment. I am now know as the angry mechanic.... have to channel Eric;s positive attitude more often to save my sanity....

It's the quiet ones that you gotta watch out for, but you never shut up. That's why I tune in. You're awesome! I bet you talk even when the camera isn't there. I know I do. I'm doing it right now!? I can relate to the spousal exchanges. Classic.

Take in stride Mr. O. You are a good man doing the right thing. People are going to be selfish, ignorant, & rude at times - it's just the way of the world. Surround yourself with family & good friends and forget about the clueless ones that are out there.
