The "distinctive click" is a satisfying sound...I didn't hear it while changing the wiper motor on my 94 Camaro back in the day (hey I thought I was cool) and after putting everything back together and turned them on, it slipped right out of the assembly! I was so frustrated that while taking off the arms again, I use a wrench to pry them up and cracked the windshield since it went down lower than I thought...definitely a distinctive clicking sound when you crack your windshield.

You just saved me so much money. My wipers stopped on a super rainy day I got stranded for a while. Had to leave my car and Uber hour and a half home. I was so stressed. Don’t have a ton of money to get a diagnosis AND another thing fixed on my car. Found this vid, did everything step by step. Except my wiper bars did NOT wanna come off. Had to find a separate vid for that. But once I did. I found I had the same problem I was able to pop the arm back on til I pick up the full transmission tomorrow. But this is the biggest lifesaver. Thank you!! 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾

The wiper motor/transmission problem is prevalent with the Chevy Equinox - I have owned two and the wipers stopped working in both vehicles in inclement weather. This is a problem GM desperately needs to fix because someone is bound to die or be severly hurt in an automobile accident because of the Equinox windshield wiper problem.

on older cars or if the customer doesn't want to spend a lot of money, I drill the plastic socket and metal ball most of the way through and tap a hole, then bolt the two together with a small gap between the moving parts which stops the arm falling off. works a charm.

I figured the linkage was the problem right from the start. The 7th gen Malibu also suffers from this same problem. GM makes their wiper systems so darn cheap now. I remember you could move a few feet of snow off the windshield with the wipers, now you have a little snow on the wipers and it ends up breaking them. What happens is those rubber connectors just get worn and stretched and then they just pop off, and it's more prone to it with age which makes it even more susceptible to damage without even much of a load on it.

I have a 2015 equinox and just received a recall for the wipers. i have to make a special appointment at the chevy garage to have the recall done. So far I havent had a problem with them. Nothing will happen until I'm in the middle of a rainstorm out in the middle of nowhere. I suspect they will try the wipers, maybe have a look at them and pronounce them a-ok, and send me on my merry little way.

Eric, old installers trick, when you are trying to use a Panel popper to remove the plastic rivets but don't want to pry against the paint, take a plastic water bottle or an old 2 liter soda bottle, cut it out and make yourself some paint protectors then you can pry outward without marring the paint :)

I thought buying a new one was way to much for me. So I went to the junk yard and found another broken one. Cut the good nylon bushings off carefully. So I ended up with a dome side and a side that looked like a washer. Put the two halves together on my wiper transition and glued them. It has been working for about 5 years.

I had a similar thing happen to a Pontiac minivan I had. My fell apart just as I was getting off the turnpike and had to fix it on the side of the road in a heavy downpour just so that I could continue on my travels. BTW ... they do make replacement plastic bushings for the arms now too. It is hard to get them into the holes on the arms, had to use a pair of pliers to get them into the holes, but then they just pushed onto the little pins real easily.

Reminds me of my moms early 2000s Saturn. After about 10 years the wipers stopped working because the wiper transmission assembly rusted up at the joints. Yes he could have but he's a mechanic and fixing a companies engineering errors isn't an easy job, a good fix would probably require a couple ground smooth ball and sockets you can find stuff on mcmaster carr that would do the trick probably. But that's not really a mechanics job.

This is very common on the Terrains and Equinox models. Personally have done a few on Terrains, mainly happens when a customer uses wipers with too much snow on the windshield. And those christmas tree clips do suck and most always break lol. Also with lining up the wipers, where the wipers park in the black section there are small little dots are the end of where the wiper sits and you are suppose to line it up with them. They're pesky to find though and easier to just line them up the way you did.

i've had two cases where Equinoxes came in with wipers not functioning, one was a fried underhood fusebox and the other was water intrusion in the body control module.

Thanks for the awesome video! Dealer wanted $350 for the repair on my 2012 Equinox. Only the 2013 is under GM recall currently. I bought the entire ACDelco 84241847 GM Original Equipment Windshield Wiper System Module that included the motor for $67 from Amazon. Original GM part and exact fit, just plug and play no messing around with the press fit connection. Did have a bit of trouble removing the wiper arms but should have had them lifted up to relieve the spring tension when pulling off. Otherwise no issues, just needed to run the wipers to set up the correct wiper position before locking down.

Thank you for this video! It helped me big time fixing the wipers on my wife's car. We tried to get bushings at Oriley's, the guys even tried to put some on, but what they had did not fit. I had to get this done on a Saturday night for my wife the next day, and could not have done it so quick without your help. Thanks again!!!

You should give her a quote for removing that plastic engine and putting a metal one in. Haha. A friend showed me his new car, which has the motor covered in a bunch of plastic covers. I said “for $500 I can swap in a metal motor instead of this plastic one. Get at least 100hp from the swap.” He went for it, I pulled the covers off and laughed. Didn’t charge him anything. Just joked about how “dense” he is. Well worth the 2 month wait it took for him to save the money to play that joke. But hey, at least he saved $500. Which he was very happy about. Got him to stop drinking as much, to save the money. Sobered him up. Now he doesn’t drink anymore.

By reference to the start of filming, you set both wiper blades up from their factory settings. The effect will be that both blades get caught more by the wind flowing backwards over the bonnet ("hood" for Americans) when in "park" position. This can be rather annoying for the driver and passengers, as there will be rather more wind noise than they are used to.

Tip, I could not get the blades off. Bend them. It must release something and they came right off

Plastic retainers...👎.... I had a 2010 Jeep wrangler. I read on a forum that the “Plastic Retainers” holding the shifting linkages together were prone to fail. I went and bought some and kept them in the console. Sure enough, on a mountain shelf road in nowhere Az trying to turn around one broke and fell out. Jeep was in reverse and shifter unhooked. Knew immediately what had happened. Then, a few days later in Moab Ut one broke and fell out on the transfer case shifter.. Sure was glad I had some of those Fantastic Plastic parts on hand...
