Sugar cookies… what comes to your mind? For a lot of people, it’s the shortbread-like cookie, delicately decorated with royal icing or fondant. It could be a crispy or chewy cookie, maybe rolled in a ball decorated with sprinkles before baking or rolled out to be shaped with different cookie cutters.
Sugar cookies can be made in different textures and thickness, as long as it has its core ingredients which are sugar, butter, flour, eggs, baking powder or soda, and vanilla. So, if you want chewy or crispy, cake-like or shortbread-like, there’s always a sugar cookie for you.
This sugar cookies recipe is my version of chewy. I love cookies that are crispy on the outside, and chewy inside. It is also super simple, and delicious even without icing.
CHEWY SUGAR COOKIES
🥐6 cups All Purpose Flour
🍞2 tsp baking soda
🥖1 tsp Clabber Girl baking powder
🧂1 tsp Kosher salt
🧈2 cups unsalted butter, room temperature
❄4 cups granulated white sugar
🥚2 whole large egg
🍦1 Tbsp Vanilla Bean Paste or Extract
🥛6 Tbsp buttermilk
