I've been watching a lot of these videos by guys with all sorts of fancy table saws, etc, and yours is by far the best explanation of how to do this that I've seen. Very useful. Well done, and thank you.

Great work for beginners in wood working and awesome video and tutorial! I would recommend going through grits when sanding, especially on pine, starting at 100 - 120 - 150 - 220, wiping off or vacuuming off the dust and using mineral spirits between grits; this will ensure that the stain will take better. Finally, apply a coat of wood conditioner to wood (only for soft woods like pine), this will prevent or reduce splotching that you get with stain when applying it to softwood. After the desired coat(s) of stain is applied, scuff sand with 400 grit sand paper, then seal the wood with Shellac, or polyurethane.

Loved this and your finished product looks great! Went through 4 or 5 videos stating they were "super easy/basic tutorials" for floating frames, yet they all used table saws and other equipment that are way over my head/budget etc. I live in an apartment and have limited access to those kinds of things, but still want to DIY my projects. Your tutorial was perfect! Instant subscription :)

Thank you so much for such a clear video! I need to frame a 24" × 20" painting on canvas panel & can't afford the $50-100 for a ready made floater frame. Your video is the answer I was looking for: no fancy tools or gadgets! Since my painting is large & on a 1/4" panel, i am going to use cedar lattice to make the frame. I already have it from another project: conditioned (sealed) & stained! Just have to cut, miter, & assemble it. Thank you for sharing!

The wood is smaller due to shrinking after being cut, then the final milling gives you the final dimensions. Your frame looks great, keep up the good work.

Super job and tutorial, good for you using hand tools, i was looking for this, a human made frame.. amen! Use some wider flat wood where the clamps attach, clamps tend to dent wood. Some more precise measurements wouldnt hurt. I was surprised how easily you made it against all the challenges, again.. great job!

You are like the 14th person I’ve watched make this frame and you stacked the two frames (inner and outer) so that you have a seam showing on the outside. The support pieces Can be placed on the inside so that When the picture is on the wall you have one solid piece of wood showing all around. I knew you were doing it differently when I saw your animated drawing at the beginning. The two pieces of wood were stacked in reverse. Curious if you have changed this on subsequent floating frames you have built?

Debby, I don't know if your question has already been answered and I don't recognize the first saw but the second one looks to be a common cross cut saw. While this saw will work, there is one called a " back saw" with a stiffening bar on rhetoric edge opposite the teeth and is designed for making precise cuts. Pax
