In 2021 most of the Grape companies that I have called to ask basic questions like what is the age range of your workers or what benefits are they being provided with? Refuse to answer these questions, which is weird since it is just a basic question. One company did answer my questions which amazed me. the company gives shade, insurance, provide restrooms and water for their field workers. Age range is 17+ at a $14 start up. UFW Association has made an incredible impact!

i myself grew up working in the fields along with my father , i have seen the worst of farmers and the best of them . I'm 60 yrs old know and I still will not touch a table grape out of respect, and to honor what my parents went thru as migrant workers . I'm very grateful to Cesar Chavez and his organizers who fought endlessly for the farm workers rights and QUE VIVA LA HUELGA ! QUE VIVA CESAR CHAVES!!

We worked in the fields since we were little kids till we went to college....we even hoed sugar beets in Ohio with the small hoes. You couldn’t even stand up after working all day bent. Picked Cotten in west Texas with rattlesnakes before the machines took over. Worst was picking pickles in Wisconsin. Lived in shackles so full of holes that the rain and cold air blew in .....labor camp in weslaco Texas so full of diseases that many little babies were dying. My little sister asked me once if white people used the toilet and I told her of course they are human beings.......she so so why don’t their houses have outhouses? We were not immigrants....we are Mexican Americans.

Wow. Your experience is incredibly powerful to read. It's people like you whom us younger workers now stand on the shoulders of. I hope you're well.

It was a “Farmworker movement” not a Chicano movement. Chicanos participated.

And many of the people there were Chicano. All Chicano is is someone of Mexican descent who was born in America. So even if their parents were immigrants, but they were born here in America and grew up to work in those fields, then they would be Chicanos in those fields. Cesar Chaves and Dolores Huerta are BOTH Chicano. Chavez was born in Arizona, and Huerta was born in New Mexico.

This meant labor has better chance at union. Filipino coachella strike works because grapes ripe quick.
