Just a Few Acres Farm

Just a Few Acres Farm

Күн бұрын

Today is chicken round-up day, when we catch our laying hens to move them from the winter house to our eggmobile, and bring them out to pasture for the summer. With over 300 laying hens, it is a big job, so we enlist the help of our kids to catch and carry chickens. We set up the eggmobile in the pasture, and explain how our pastured poultry system works: eggmobile design, the fencing we use, and the benefits of keeping laying hens on pasture.
Note:
-We do not offer farm tours
-We do not ship our farm's products

Try making calf slobbers “meringue” with “country eggs” they whip up really high compared to store eggs. Can’t beat them.

@@johndeere1951a I guess you didn’t understand my reply as I don’t understand yours. Since I was a little boy an elderly friend of the family called the meringue on a pie calf slobbers. The first time my wife made meringue with eggs that we got from a friend who had just started keeping keeping chickens her meringue was twice as high as normal.

Pulmonary fibrosis used to be called "farmer's lung". It's a lot like emphysema in that it takes many years of breathing in small particulate matter to turn into a chronic condition. I'm sure you are immune to salmonella, but please understand that while pulmonary fibrosis may not be infectious, it is eventually deadly- my grandmother and dad both died of this disease. It's not a pretty death either- it takes years and is excruciating. Please wear a mask whenever you're exposed to a lot of poultry dust. I love your channel and I want you around to make videos well into your 80s. And for the love of God, learn to fell a tree safely! You are an incredibly smart man and I've learned a great deal watching your channel, but a few of the things you do worry me. Please use your intelligence to take care of your health as well as your farm. I wouldn't take the time to write this if I didn't admire and care about you, Pete.

As a kid helping my parents with chickens we always used a "catcher." It allowed catching without greatly disturbing the others. Perhaps slower than your family helper method. The "catcher" was commercially made; about 4 foot of heavy wire with a bent hook on one end to catch a chicken foot. The other end was a wooden handle for the operator.
