The expressionist architecture in the background and floaty choreography bring a whole new atmosphere of surreal horror to this character Almost makes the child catcher seem like a malevolent faerie or even a demon Either way, he seems uncannily inhuman here Hats off to the actor, he really outdid himself

This version of this scene and character, after just seeing it for the first time, is so ominous, especially with the red sky with the monument in the background, and the sloping roofs of the houses, even though the architecture is beautiful and charming, and is one of my favourite kinds, it does remind me of Hansel and Gretel a tad bit, too, and the orchestration of bassoon and the Child Catcher’s soliloquy really brings in foreboding elements of ‘creepy’ and ‘dangerously evil’.

Tim Burton would've had time of his life making his own version of the movie, because this child catcher is what I would picture him to look like if was designed by him.
