Ahead of the adaptation of award-winning book Americanah into a HBO TV series; Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie hosted Oscar award winning actor Lupita Nyong’o in Nigeria. The private reception which took place in Lagos recently, was a star-studded affair with some of the biggest names in Nigeria’s corporate and creative industries in attendance.

So, Lupita said she had written a letter to chimamanda Ngozi Adichie asking her to make a film out of her book: Americanah. She didn't reply until she, (Lupita) became famous for Twelve years a slave. So, if she didn't gain such an audience when the movie came out, was chimamanda ever going to agree to meet with her? I mean, Lupita said she is a Kenyan actress, what more chimamanda needed before responding to an African call? I thought she speaks of equality? Equal opportunity etc??? When she noticed Lupita was internationally 'known and famous' she came closer, and brought her to Nigeria. Is this not an opportunistic behaviour?
