You actually just make stuff up about PLAN submarines. There is no such thing as the Type 98 (6:13) - this class does not exist except in your imagination, or whatever faulty source you happen to be using. There is also no such thing as JL-2C - there is the JL-2, JL-2A, and JL-3. The Yu-3 torpedo is not used anymore on Chinese submarines - they have all shifted to the Yu-6. This video reminds me of the time when you claimed to your audience that claims that China has AESA radars is just Chinese propaganda. I like to hear about actual weaknesses (and strengths) of the PLAN, but to actually give accurate info you really need to do some legitimate research. I am not interested in factually fuzzy or just outright wrong content.

@@SubBrief if you do this remember to include the real posdibility - due to fact USA military are inS. Korea,Philippines,Japan and I would predict (maybe) Indonesian involvement -Natuna! And Malacca Straight!! Surely China would attack US Military bases wherever they are and even if they are not naval targets. Which then adds what North Korea does - anyone who thinks that NK will sit on the sidelines and do nothing is crazy. If Russia enters the fray you can rest assured they will attempt to take back the contested part of S. Island. Which would bring in the Japanese to the war for sure. And then what does the USA do about that. But I suspect the Japanese would crush the Russians. Any Russian naval maneuvers out of would run the USA submarine barricade. I could go on a lot more. The point is not to a half a job. Like USA vs CHINA. That’s just downright ridiculous and stupid simultaneously. And if I knew a battle is near with China I would have my “teams” in China with the necessary wherewithal to assist me in reducing the risk from sub base in Hainan, Liao Ning HQ, Xiamen and other strategic naval bases. Aside from that it is obvious to a number of experts China needs maybe 5 years to even consider attacking Taiwan let alone USA. So I will be highly critical of a seriously flawed attempt.

BTW, The 2009 ONI (Office of Naval Intelligence) noise level comparison in 27:30 included Type 095, the PLAN 3rd generation SSN, and predicted it would commissioned around 2015. 7 years after, the first Type 095 is still far from hitting water, the schedule is much slower than foreign predict. It is highly possible that PLAN had changed the requirements of Type 095.

Based on the photos of models by CSSC(manufactures of Chinese submarines) and the satellite images within a year, the Bravo version of Type093/094 are coming (the first Type 093B was launched around April 2022). Both featured pump jet which is unprecedented for PLAN, and Type 093B featured VLS tubes. It might still take years to see their third generation SSN/SSBN (Type 095/096) come out.

Hello! The noise level compariosn of submarines in 27:30 was from the ONI (Office of Naval Intelligence) report in November 2009, which represents the intelligence USN gathered earlier in 2000s. This graph should be right about the noise level of earliest version of Type 093/094, but this was a bit outdated by now; not sure whether they have updated version. And Yu-3 is really an museum piece; what are mostly mentioned are models later than Yu-6, powered by combustion engine like MK-48.

Deadly but not silent is the best description for Chinese nuclear subs. Keeping their boomers close to home could also be a way of making sure they behave themselves.

This will be very interesting. What are downsides to automation in subs, in general. Autoloader in Soviet tanks, automation in submarines. We didn't do that as much. Complicated question i suppose but it's a curious thing. Is it primarily driven by personnel management ... err, you know what I mean. Like the training of large numbers of extremely technical specialists like submariners was less of an issue for the Western navies (USN especially). You've talked about it before in other videos. It may not be worth your time to make a full video on it but I think average Westerners would expect the exact opposite to be true about our ships/subs. Responding to casualties, preventing casualties by having more personnel on duty at any given time, preventing crew fatigue, damage control during a casualty, but theres trade offs to have more people on a ship. etc. This is me spitballing. Maybe the PLAN would rather have quantity and thus they'd go for smaller crew sizes and more automation?

What keeps me up at night is the thought of Russia selling their SSBNs to the PLAN. Even transfer of the cold war era Delta III and Delta IV subs would be a vast improvement of China’s noise levels for their ballistic missile submarines. With enough cash, perhaps Russia would even eventually sell the early 955 Borei class submarines so they could standardize on the 955A for their own fleets. The PLA having late Deltas and early Boreis would allow them to approach close enough to the US coasts to strike everywhere in North America. After that, even inferior copies of 955 Borei class submarines could potentially be quiet enough to give them free movement throughout the Pacific and Atlantic.

Russia isn't that stupid or desperate. Siberia's minerals and oil deposits are China's key to self-sufficiency, and both Putin and the CCP know this - the only reason the Chinese want Taiwan first is because Taiwan can't nuke them if they get invaded. A war for Siberia also plays heavily into why the PLA is investing in capabilities that are of little to no use in a war to take Taiwan, such as nuclear second strike capabilities and stealth bombers.

The YU-3 isn't a stealthy first strike type of weapon IMO. It seems to be more of a reactionary or last ditch effort type of weapon. If a Chinese SSBN has to fire the YU-3 then it's probably because it was detected firing its missiles and was fired at upon doing so. It's a "if I'm going down I'll take you with me" kind of thing.
@NorthForkFisherman
@NorthForkFisherman Жыл бұрын
Well, a missile launch is a very detailed and specific operation. If an SSBN has been engaged and has to evade, it's not going to be able to launch. Further, if an SSBN has suddenly gone to a "hover" at a shallow depth, any trailing boat will probably assume that is in preparation to fire. At that point, any ROE will come into play.

As far as I know (I might be terrible wrong), submarines are much more complex than normal surface warships. China's surface fleet (the ships themselves, not sure about the weapons) are considerable threat to US and its allies in Pacific and maybe Indian oceans in future, but their submarine force has a loooong way to catch up, if they do catch up. Good thing is that Russia is not a naive ally of China or a desperate country anymore, and they are not gonna help the Chinese (their certain future rivals) with state of the art technology anymore.
@conzmoleman
@conzmoleman Жыл бұрын
China is not a threat to anyone. They do however need to be prepared to defend themselves from the USA. You know - the nation that has 80 overseas bases, has invaded countless nations unprovoked since WW2, and constantly patrols the water and air bordering China? That one? I don’t see Chinese jets and subs patrolling our coastline. Why? Because they are not a threat. And you’d have to be both insane and insanely brainwashed to actually consider them a threat, instead of the other way around.

@@conzmoleman I'm Iranian. I know very well what America has done. If you're Chinese, you must thank US because they helped you when your government went to war with Soviet Union. US gave you all sorts of technology, industrial assistance and support. Meanwhile my country's democracy and freedom has been robbed by US coups and sanctions.

Russia is completely depending on China now with its disastrous war against Ukraine. They will give China almost all of their mediocre tech in exchange for a few repurposed washing machine chips for rocket production.

@@tumultuoustenets1228 I‘m not so sure, about that. When a sonar officer a.d of an SSN tells us that it was extremely hard to find good sources and that this seems to be near to the truth, I‘d believe it more, than the idea that China has achieved to trick us all and step up to the technological state the US needed decades. In all ends, we see the Problems in the Chinese military The quality is not on the level as the US.

I am not saying this video is all wrong but China is definitely not stupid and they surely know they must make their submarine quiet enough to survive. So it is either some internet information are wrong or they have a certain operation mode to make it very silent under water while they wait for the doomsday. P.s. China has already officially said 039A/B/C, 093A/G and 094A are all false internet naming variants. China only officially name them modified 039, modified 093 and modified 094, because each batch of submarine is modified from earlier submarine batch, and there are no pennant number on their submarines. Therefore others can only recognise their new submarine of the same class when there is visual change or significant noise signature difference.

Yeah, of course. America has way more experience when it comes to submarines. Especially after they took in nazi warcriminals and stole german technology.

For the most part, I still feel that the whole Chinese military is little more than a pumped up effigy of a credible military force. Communist propaganda should not be underestimated in its effectiveness to intimidate Western observers who are used to a more realistic picture of the World due to a still for the most part a free press. The one area of the Chinese military effort that I feel is enormously underestimated is their ability to essentially steal any secret that they wish to, this is where the Chinese have shown again and again to the complete bafflement of Western intelligence how they can obtain the plans and maybe even physical specimens it appears of anything they want. Western militaries should be aware that most likely the Chinese have decrypted any and all Western signal intelligence communications. A new approach is required that takes into account this inability to shield state secrets from the Chinese!

I read somewhere they got their hands on a training shot in the 80s or 90s. They also have technical documents on the ADCAPs and used that in the YU-9.

If you would say these subs are not capable at certain level, I would not really agree. Back to the history of Chairman Mao, even till late 90s, subs development got way more attention than warships or carriers. Such a country with the technology and the capability of building modern blue water navy. They would not be happy to count on some "not so capable" balist missile sub. If they have been keep building the 094 before anyone would see the 096 in some future. There must be a good enough reason.
