Hey Guys! This week we take on the Chinese Reading Challenge, and try to read chinese, or at least learn how to read Chinese. How good is our Chinese lmfao. We have a Chinese book from when we were younger, and we’re going to be reading it to see who knows the most Chinese characters.
Here are the rules:
- -1 point per unknown word if someone catches you
- -1 point per wrong tone if someone catches you
- -1 point per wrong word if someone catches you
- -2 points if you accuse someone of being wrong but you’re wrong
- Loser has to do a dare that you guys mention. (We forgot to mention it in the video!)

tbh one of the funniest thing about the video was how y'all kept reading words wrong despite having read those same words either from diff pages n sometimes even in the same sentence 😂😂 but on a diff note how do u get 后 from 後 😭😭 my simplified chinese brain cannot comprehend AHAHAHA but great video guys!! :))

I know! I swear I will never be able to read traditional chinese. Cuz I was kinda doing the challenge at the same time. And for God sake, if it was written 一会儿 and not 一會兒 , I would've gotten it right.

I'll be the first to admit that my Chinese reading ability is absolute trash, but I think I still beat Mike lol 😂 Also I'm Canto but I can only read in Mando bc #indoctrination so I was really shook when Sheldon kept switching between Mando & Canto for the same sentence 🙃

游 vs 遊 Don’t confuse the two. Did the text use the wrong one or you guys did? 游 has got 氵so it has to do with water thus swim. 遊 means to tour. Great to see you all try. Kudos to you.👍

CantoMando I had no choice xD my parents made me go for 3 years and then I started to watch Chinese dramas as well. That made me realize how good it is to learn Chinese, so I stuck to it till I went off to college ^^

I got a very complicated feeling after watching this video. As a young fob working at Seattle, I really concern that my future next generation can't understand any basic beautiful Chinese literature, history or poems if I decide to stay in US forever. It would be sad if they can't identify themselves as who they originally are. I feel heavy at this point.

Oh we had that book in Chinese school - different grades had different textbooks but similar to that haha. I like how they switched to mandarin when they forget how to say a word in Cantonese. It's hilarious.

房 means house in Mandarin but room in Cantonese.. meanwhile 屋 means room in Mandarin but house in Cantonese

IG SQUAD! Lol I can't believe how bad Mike is at reading Chinese... I'll just keep believing it's because he was reading Traditional characters and he doesn't know but... yeah. Btw Sheldon, you're actually good at it! AND WHAT'S UP WITH EDWARD'S EVIL LAUGH lmao. PLEASE MAAAAKEEEEE MIKE speak in Cantonese for at least 30 seconds!!!!!!! ALSO, knew all the characters but my tones are all messed up haha I'm jealous that you can read in Cantonese :'( it's hard for me, I just go with Mandarin

hahaha btw @ Edward, the way you pronounced 一會兒 is not totally wrong! It can be pronounced as yi2 huir4 (which is the correct pronunciation) or yi4 huir3. That's what my professor in Guangzhou taught my class haha

IG Squad. It’s ok, Mike. At least you can speak Mandarin & read some Chinese. I can’t really Mandarin & can’t even read Chinese except for some characters like big, small, one, two, three & people. The dare: have Mike attempt to ask for directions in Cantonese.

玩 is read in Cantonese as woon but spoken as waan. In Cantonese some characters are read differently from how they are spoken. Minus points to Sheldon and Edward! Lol
