Chinese diesel heater LCD displays become dimmer over time as the LED backlighting ages. In this video, we Hack an easy fix by hot-gluing an extra LED on the side of the LCD Light diffuser and solder it into the +5 volt and GND.

When I received my brand new 2kw Chinese Diesel Heater, the LCD display was intermittent and would randomly cut off and back on. Sometimes I could not get it on at all. I opened the case and examined the solder connections. At least 6 were NOT SOLDERED IN. The pins were through the holes, but they forget to solder the pins in. After I did this I had no more issues.

I'm on my second or third coloured controller and they have all dimmed after a year or so, so pointless buying new ones each year. Thanks for the hack - not sure if I can get master the changes, but it's sure worth a try! I tried to extend the life of my latest one by adding a display off switch, but it hasn't helped the display longevity, though it's great come bed time. Thankyou.

It should also be noted that the three wires are prone to breaking where they are soldered to the circuit board. Make sure your power lead does not move around.

I know this is an old video, but i thought I’d share my thoughts. I’ve added a switch to turn on the brighter led to be able to see it during the day easily and turn it off at night if it’s too bright for me to sleep in my van.

Thanks I got some good data off your video. I don't have a dimming display but I do have a flaky controller. Knowing what the voltage was supposed to be and which wires to look on is it start. I'll look on your channel for other videos but I'm hoping you do a basic rundown on the wiring for the Chinese diesel heater. Thanks!

Hi. Super comprehensive video, many thanks. I also have a dim display and had intended changing it during the summer, but never got round to it. Now I NEED the heater in the workshop, so I’ll put up with the dim display until the spring, and then use your fix. I use the remote to switch it on an off, so don’t really need to see the display. No doubt you measured the voltage as 5v?I only ask as the supply is 12v and I wondered if they’d bothered to provide a 5v rail, and did you notice if there was a current limiting resistor mounted on the PCB? Cheers Noel

Hi matey I've fitted an extra white LED and it has improved it a bit. However on mine it seems to be a viewing angle problem. Looking straight at screen its dim. Look slight downward or upwards its perfectly readable. It's almost like the polarised front screen is wrong. Mines been dim from new....Cheers from old George

Thanks for that, mine has gone very dim after one year and needs a fix. If the LEDs are simply being overdriven, adding a resistor to the new unit will prevent dimming.

@@slickjimmy76 these units are designed to be used in 12 vehicles, the voltage of which can vary for 12 to 14 volts. Is it possible to specify the LED used? Does the LED need to be a 5-volt LED? In other words, is it necessary to have a 900 MCD 5 volt LED, because I cannot find any. I can find 3,2 volt 900 MCD LED's, but no 5 volt ones. Many thanks!!!!

Yeah that woul`d be great, i guess we can add a switch outside the case to flip it on and off, but it would be best if it went off when you turned it off. Or dim down woul`d also be great.

This should be possible if you used a 10k ohm trimpot volume controller as a dimmer and put it in series with the +5v feed to the led. If that sort of makes sense.

Hi dude, wonder if you could help. Brand new out the box my screen was super dim and unable to read in daylight. Seller is sending a new screen so all good. Question I have is if I repair the screen LEDs can I wire 2 screens to the heater, the 5v and ground would be fine but would it cause a issue with the data wire? Would a blocking diode work of if used on each date so one controller doesn't feed into the other or won't that work if two way data? I have mine installed in a boat on the 5kw version and have heat output in main saloon and forward cabin and would be nice if could control the heater from both cabins. Regards

@sb3bedfordbusstuff146 3 жыл бұрын
I doubt you can use x2 controllers on one unit. The biggest problem maybe the heater would receive a command from one of the x2 controllers but the other controller may not update and display the correct data. Also each controller has its own temp sensor so thing could get well confused. I don't think it would work and it could be a fire risk if a fault occurs.

probably too late but I drive my heater with a 20 amp 120v to 12v power supply. I got the e-07 error until I swapped the new power supply in. It doesn't pull 20 amps but the voltage drops if you are not using a capable power supply. Or direct 12 v battery, but i have 120 v available so I use it.

I think the OXO means the controller has lost communication with the main heater unit. When I made this video the controller was not connected the the main heater body but was power using a independent benchtop power supply.

In your video...your Display unit has the E 07 Error Code....how do you fix that ? I have had my Chinese Diesel Air Heater for a few months. It came with a different style Display that worked fine...but after 3 or 4 months the Red and Blue wires both broke at the hole in the Display. I immediately ordered another Display...but I needed the heater and resoldered the 2 broken wires and the old display works fine again...Now I got the new Display unit and right out of the box it gives me this E 07 Fault Code. I know my Heater works fine as I use it with my old display unit. What the Hell is up with this E 07 Fault Code and how to fix it ? Thanks... Liked/Subscribed !

You should rule out your transformer by connecting the heater directly to a FULLY CHARGED car battery. Don't try to use a smaller or motorcycle battery. You need the CAPACITY of a good car battery. These controllers are very Voltage sensitive.
