I've got exactly the same van with 12k miles on it. Its averaged 150 miles a charge over winter, using the heater and heated seats, which costs £4.50 on my home charger.A Maxus dealer bi-annual service cost me £185. They come with a 5 year warranty on the whole vehicle and 8 years on the battery. Its perfect for me as a heating engineer doing local work, a charge can last me a week. Its great to drive, very quick around town and the insurance only cost me £405 a year and no road tax.I previously had a Transit Custom (69 plate) that cost me 26 pence a mile as opposed to 3 pence which this van costs and was no end of bother and broke down after 3.5 years, which was out of Fords 3 year warranty. That cost me £1500 to get fixed.Electric vans are no good for people doing big miles everyday but it suits me. Dont knock it until you've tried it.

I had a fully electric van as my work van between 2015 and 2020. Half the battery size of this so also half the range. It was the shops van, So it needed public charging in the car park to survive. Not sure what things are like now, but the council managed the chargers and that meant they were just left to rot. Electric is great within it's range and a great van, having predictable charging is a must. My current vehicle is back to diesel. After failures outside of warranty and very expensive repairs. I prefer something I can repair myself.

I have the first generation leaf, with the crap heating system. It's 13 years old. It takes a fair hit on the range in the winter due to heating. Heated seats like that van has would make a huge difference, as I can generally run the heating in the morning when it's plugged in to defrost the windscreen. Beyond that, heated seats would heat the passengers. As it happens, I don't really mind the cold, so I just live with it, and force my daughter to wrap up if she's travelling with me.

Waiting for the next gen of batteries to come out, we tried an e-vivaro and got about 80 miles in winter fully racked and loaded for heating/electrical around sussex. It was a nightmare if you were called out and didn't have enough charge to go back out. We also later found out that the larger battery pack puts it over the 3.5 tonne so the driver has to have the extended 4 day course for EV's otherwise the insurance is void. Little vans and local work - deliveries etc no brainer. Firms providing a call out service around a larger area they're not ready yet.

I use an electric Peugeot e-Rifter (the passenger version of the Partner van) as my daily car. I think it's great personally. Claimed range is about 160 miles, I get maybe 140 winter and 180 summer or thereabouts. Really nice to drive, very quick by van type vehicle standards. I'm on a cheaper overnight charging deal than this guy so end up paying around 2.5 pence per mile. Obviously charging at a public charger is a lot more, but still less than my diesel Transit Connect used to cost me. Batteries are on a 9 year manufacturer warranty, less parts to go wrong, I'm not going back to diesel any time soon.

i am looking to buy a newer van since my van got written off about a month ago, was up Aberdeen way looking at a euro6 engine transit, the sales person told me to stay away from the Maxus vans, they had just had a 6year Maxus in for MOT and it had failed for holes in the chassis. maybe down south in Englandshire you guys will get more milage out of the chassis with the better weather in winter compared to Scotland and all the road salt and the sticky salt on the motorways but as i was told, they are cheap for a reason. i also dont get why roof racks are not as good as the past. i only need a roof rack 4 or 5 times a year which on my old transit 12 plate took 20minutes to bolt it to the van gutters and use it as i please. but the new body transits, it looks like i will need to have one on it all the time or no roof rack. was hoping to find an aftermarket roof rails like a car has that you can bolt a roof rack too but cant find anything so far. seems silly to me as its an essential bit of kit for some van owners. not running a roof rack can save £5 to £10 on fuel per tank when i tested it years ago, probably £10 to £15 in todays money. even better still why havent the big manufacturers designed a roof rack to fit into the roof body that you pull up when need it and tuck down when dont?

This week BYD announced the digital solid-state battery system is now here and will be mainstream from next year. This means fully charged in 10 minutes and 400 miles of range. It seems that EV's are finally starting to get useable. Nice one Roger good content.

Tesla is in trouble because the Chinese have the market sewn up. Elon Musk has even said that it is impossible to compete with them. Tesla is niche. Very soon every other new vehicle will come from China. They have built new ships that carry thousands of cars and they are heading this way.

@@SkillBuilder Ports in the UK and so many other countries are full of Chinese cars and vans, they are using them as car parks. There is no market for them, no dealers as it is reconised that they are not of quality. My inlaws have just bought an EV MG 6 months old for £25k, retail now is £35.00k there is no future for them. Stonewall have just been found out for their emperors new clothes, in a year the EV joke will be as well.

EVs are the future because it is superior technology compared to ICEs. You get way finer control over an electric motor than an ICE. This means improved traction and sporty direct control. At the same time you use significantly less energy. Running costs are a fraction compared to a traditional car while also having improved environmental credentials. Petrol industry is working hard to keep the narrative going that EVs are BS. They fear for there business.

The Chinese government have subsidised the EV car makers by a whopping $57 billion over the six years to 2022. So much so the EU is investing this with announcement soon. By comparison the UK has been a little more cautious and £2billion funding is spoken about between 2025-30

@@loosecannon5813 The UK/EU have a real decision to make regards to Chinese EVs. Do they apply heavy tariffs to Chinese manufactured vehicles, thus protecting domestic markets, or do they allow low-tariff import with the aim of meeting net zero targets. Consumers are far less concerned regards to EV brand than they are with petrol/diesel. They buy them because they are utilitarian rather than how they make them feel (or are mostly allocated them as part of company fleet).

Running a 2kW granny charger all day (say 8 hours) would cost less than £5 at a normal domestic rate. If I were him, I'd offer to pay, just to show how cheap charging an EV really is, and how miserly the client was being. If you're paying a tradesman for a job that takes that all day, the total bill (including parts) is probably over £500. Not letting them charge is as petty as not letting them use your toilet.

I suggest that no one buys chinese EV's they are death traps so many vids on utube of the fires they are causing not the full truth as vids aren't freely available, a disgrace to expect the customer to charge the bloody van when on a job ffs imagine asking a customer to go buy some diesel, this bloke needs to charge his van at home even if he only gets 4 hrs at cheap rate tough luck, there is no way I would be charging anyone's EV the money he saves on road tax can pay to charge it, EV's are doomed musk has just laid off 10% of his world workforce as everyone is realising EV is not the way, this van will be no good fully laden. I made that mistake by having a mobile car dent repairer come to my house to sort out rear bumper as some clown ran into me, he quoted 250 quid but then on arrival I had to supply electricity for his tools curing heater etc I had the same price from a proper body shop and no extra costs. I wish I had this blokes e mail I would write and tell him what I think of him !!!!!

Disappointed in SB even touting Chinese brands as the solution. If we are to go electric vehicle way, which btw I don't want, then we need to make sure they're at least designed and built in the UK. Or just watch the industry and British jobs disappear. Isn't there enough examples of the decimation of the UK steel, electronics, clothing, micro chip etc.. industries just walking right out of the door to warn us to not even talk about foreign brands. Just STOP IT.

We are not touting anything, this is just us talking to a plumber about his van choice. As for British jobs going down the drain it is already way too late for all European car manufacturers.
