@@kokolexx I think maybe it's because we see Chinese in different perspectives? Like I understand the difference in meaning between 才 and 就 but I don't realize it's a grammar thing haha. I didn't really learn much grammar at school maybe because, at least for native speakers, Chinese is not really a grammar-based language (like French/English where word order and tenses heavily influence the sentence meaning) but more a "meaning-based" language. I think as native speakers we care more about collocation and the exact meaning of characters words and idioms, so we spend more time on those in primary/middle school i guess. Or maybe I actually learned this in 1st grade but I totally forgot hahahaha.

@@kokolexx It's like when you are saying "I couldnt fall asleep until I took the pills" (才scenario） and "I fell asleep before I EVEN took any pills"(就scenario) I didnt realize the difference was grammatical. I though it was just changes in word choice and tones hahaha. I need to learn more hahahaha.

Like to emphasizing the affirmation. 就是这样！vs是这样。就是这！vs 是这。就是你！就是！ or means "even if" example: 就是不好吃，也要吃完。

In the example of he bought ten books and paid 200 and then l paid for 1 book 200. In this case jiu needs to be used first since ten books is a large quantity lm right? and cai should be used later since l only bought one book is this correct?

Hello! It refers to the price per book in the example sentence. "You only paid ¥100 for ten books (10 yuan per book ) while I paid ¥200 for just one book." That is, “I” paid more than "you" did for each book.

Maybe a better option would be consired "cai" as "small quantity for the speaker" and "jiu" as "large quantity for the speaker"

I've tried learning Mandarin Chinese a few times, but I just find it impossible to understand. Pronunciation is hard, I can neither hear nor say the tones, and the grammar is radically different to English (basic word order is...not too bad, but particles like cai, jiu, le, de, etc... are mostly incomprehensible to me). But the biggest problem I have is simply this: Everything sounds the same!!! That is, I find the words too similar sounding to each other and as such, I can neither remember them nor understand anything that is said. The sheer number of homophones, or near homophones, and the lack of phonic diversity is easily the most frustrating thing about Chinese. It makes listening comprehension nearly impossible for me. (Or maybe I just suck at language learning.) My friends and coworkers (I currently work in Taiwan) would like me to try learning Mandarin Chinese again, but I'm not really sure it's a language that I can realistically understand.

AL Bajgurd That's because the English word "just" has two Chinese meaning, "才” and “就” which are used in opposite scenario. In short, 才is used when emphasizing something "lower extent ", "not reach expectation ". 就is used when something is out of speaker's expectation. Here's the example. A：我复习了好几天，但最后才考了60分😭。 B：我都忘了复习，但随便考考就考了90分😏。 A：💢
