Hi still watching your great videos! A sure way to determine rich or lean fuel condition is to check your spsrk plug after every adjustment to the jet or the needle position. A black or wet spark plug indiicates a rich condition and a white or ashy plig ini dicates a lean condition, you need to find a balance in between the two. I use several brand new plugs when adjusting a new carb so results are more reliable to see.

I went from #76 stock to a #102 I’ve also a upgraded air pod filter & did away with the stock filter. Starts & idles great. But, after adjusting needle up & down both not seeing much of any change still. Topped at 40-m.p.h. Even drilled out my fine adjustment. About the same still. What you recommend? On the carb? Doing other upgrades later on.

Help! I have quite a bit of experience with jetting a carb for the best performance. My bike starts, idles, and runs great under most conditions. The issue I'm having is that I live about a mile down a very rough dirt road, where I can only run about 10-15 mph (5000-6000 rpm). After a couple of minutes at this speed, it starts to bog and will sometimes die. I'm hoping a needle clip adjustment will solve this, but I'm not sure which way to go. Does this sound more like a lean or rich condition? Very nice video, one of the most comprehensive I have seen! Thanks for that. You mentioned how soft and easily stripped the factory screws are. I replaced all of mine with stainless hex head (allen head) screws. No more worries! They are available at some hardware stores, I bought mine at Ace.

I'm glad to hear that you found the video helpful, and it's great that you replaced those screws with stainless hex head ones to avoid any future issues! Now, let's address the carburetor jetting issue you're experiencing on your motorcycle when riding down the rough dirt road. The symptoms you describe - the bike running well under most conditions but starting to bog and potentially dying after a couple of minutes at low speed - could be indicative of a slightly lean condition. When you're riding at low speeds, especially on a rough dirt road where the engine might be working harder due to vibrations and variations in terrain, a lean condition can become more noticeable. Here's a step-by-step approach to address this issue: Check the Spark Plug: Start by checking the spark plug's color after a ride where the issue occurred. If the plug is white or light gray, it may indicate a lean condition. If it's dark or sooty, it might indicate a rich condition. Air Filter: Make sure your air filter is clean and not clogged. A restricted air intake can contribute to a lean condition. Needle Clip Adjustment: Given your description, you might consider lowering the needle clip one position. This will allow the carburetor to deliver slightly more fuel at mid-range throttle positions, which could help with the lean condition you're experiencing. Main Jet: If lowering the needle clip position doesn't resolve the issue, you might want to try a slightly larger main jet. This will enrich the mixture at full throttle and could help with the lean condition when riding at higher RPMs. Pilot Jet: Ensure that your pilot jet is clean and appropriately sized for idle and low-speed operation. A clogged pilot jet can cause problems at low speeds. Fuel Quality: Make sure you're using fresh, high-quality fuel. Old or low-quality fuel can affect the bike's performance. Carburetor Cleaning: If the issue persists, consider cleaning the carburetor thoroughly. Sometimes, debris or varnish buildup can affect fuel flow and cause lean conditions. Consult a Professional: If you're not comfortable making these adjustments yourself, it's a good idea to consult a professional motorcycle mechanic who can fine-tune the carburetor for your specific riding conditions. Remember to make changes incrementally and keep an eye on the spark plug's color as you make adjustments. It may take some trial and error to find the perfect setting for your motorcycle's carburetor, especially when riding on challenging terrain like a rough dirt road.

Thanks for the reply! I'm pretty good about keeping the carb and jets clean. I think my jetting is good, once I hit pavement it runs great. I'll try lowering the needle clip one slot, it's currently right in the middle. A little side note: A piece of the smallest guitar string is perfect for cleaning out these tiny pilot jets! Thanks again!
