The modified knife is used for curved cuts and detail work. It has less metal along the spline of the blade so it is easier to make smooth curved cuts. The standard chip carving knife is used when making straight cuts and gradual curves.

You are AMAZING!!! =0) All of your art is so Beautiful! I've never tried wood carving ...its about the only art form I haven't dabbled in.... (mainly drawing,painting, jewelry, & papercraft) My Freshman year in High School they had just quit offering woodshop (I was bumed) but after seeing all of your work .. I am definitely going to try! (Green is my fav. color/birth stone so I really loved the green gemstones.) Do you sell any of your work?

Hi, your work is lovely! I went to your site and was looking at your knives. Do you think your Gold Edition cutting knife would work on pine wood? Or which of your knives would you recommend me for pine wood? I'm just planning to decorate some little boxes with straight channels and some slight curves at the corners. Thank's, nice evening!
@MyChipCarving8 жыл бұрын
+Karlita Kacris Yes, the Gold Cutting Knife would work when carving pine. It will fit your hand well. Keep it sharp and you will get good results. Let me know if you have any questions.

Pretty amazing... whenever i try to carve wood like that.. it doesnt matter what kind of knife or chisel... if i am pressing hard enough to make that kind of incision, then it becomes almost impossible to control the cut.. especially the straight cut ... always wants to slip and go too far
@MyChipCarving6 жыл бұрын
Hello Robert, I'd be glad to help you overcome this problem. It sounds like a technique issue. Go to mychipcarving.com and watch the Proper Technique Video. This wil be the first step forward! Marty

MyChipCarving it seems like you are using basswood... thats kind of the soapstone of wood... its nice if you get to choose the wood... do your methods work on harder woods like oak?
@MyChipCarving6 жыл бұрын
Robert Hageman the harder the wood, the harder it is to get needed depth of cut. I've chip carved mahogany but only once 😁
@luckily777776 жыл бұрын
MyChipCarving I've never carved green or soft wood, and i usually end up going over and over the layout until it is deep enough.. its not as attractive as watching your method... kind of like when you draw over and over with a pen until the line is thick enough
@MyChipCarving6 жыл бұрын
Robert Hageman try removing a small chip inside the lines and then cut on the lines. This will help

@MyChipCarving5 жыл бұрын
The My Chip Carving Cutting Knife is for large, deep, straight or gradual curved cuts The Modified Knife has less metal on the spine. It is used for curved cuts and detail work. Less metal makes it easier to carve letter and tight curves without chatter marks! mychipcarving.com/product-category/chip-carving-knives/ Thanks for your question!
