My dad J.N. Roberts is the one who turns over the Val van. He worked as a stuntman on over a 100 episodes of CHIPS. I grew up watching and luving that show. Its a lot of the reason I followed in his footsteps. I've been a movie stuntman for the past 31 years. Thanks, 80's Life

I watched the show as a kid and watch it sometimes flipping through the channels. Takes me back. Love the stunts. And the sights! Real cars real drivers. No CGI. Still got the engines and transmissions in them when they roll them over.

Hey Jimmy, your dad is a LEGEND! I am a friend of Motocross Mike Brown (TN) and aquainted with Troy Lee... I love your guys part in Dust to Glory! CHiPs has always been a favorite for me... I always look at show credits of movies to see if any of you guys are credited with the stunts.

Great job Kurt! I actually met Erik Estrada when I lived on Maui in the mid 90's. We talked for about 5 minutes in the arcade at the Wharf Cinema center in Lahaina. He was a very nice guy and we talked about CHiPs and acting in the movie Midway. Good times!

Great video! Chips was my favorite show growing up and living in Southern California for 52 years and and knowing the area, I could always tell that they were not in the location that they were calling in on their radios. But that is how Hollywood does it.
@80sLife2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Yes that is true. It's time to find the actual locations 🙂
@mjwbulich2 жыл бұрын
The best are the location jumps form scene to scene. A bad guy commits a robbery in Culver City. Cut to them chasing him down the 118 in Chatsworth. Then the bad guy causes a huge pile up and flips his car on the 210 in La Crescenta. Somehow in that 90 second chase they covered 45 miles.

CHiPs was a show that you loved as a kid but it hasn't aged well due to its horrible '70s production standards. But the beautiful California scenery somehow makes it still worth a second watch. Thanks for making this video, I really enjoyed it.

I loved "CHiPs" and that era of television. A lot of those shows were shot in the same places. "Hulk' and "Little House" were often filmed in the Santa Clarita area. Malibu and Vasquez Rock as well as so many places in the San Fernando Valley and in Santa Monica. It's amazing watching those old shows how run-down things looked in the late 1970s and early '80s. So many of the old brick buildings and stores have been ripped down and replaced with modern steel and glass ones.
@cheryl26752 жыл бұрын
I catch myself watching vintage shows like this (Hart to Hart, Charlie’s Angels, Wonder Woman, etc) just to see if I can recognize the area. You’re right, they look so old and rundown but now wishing we could all go back to these good old days!

Kurt: Another great one. You are not going to believe this. Speaking of Decker Canyon Road. When I lived in Simi Valley some friends and I rode our bicycles from Simi, through Thousand Oaks, through Westlake Village, onto Decker Canyon Road, all the way to the beach. AND BACK. These were not 10 speeds. This was about 1969. Think Sting Ray bikes with the banana seats. Single gear. Dehydrated riders. I can't believe we did that. We would have been about 14.

Later on in life when I drove dump trucks I’d work often in Malibu and once at the Malibu Inn, the area where they’re standing at 4:12 was dug up and I was pretty much standing where they’re standing. Good times, thanks for the great content.

Loved this video, I grew up on this show, this takes me back, it always amazed me the little chains of events theyd have that would lead up to an epic pile up, the whole chasing someone across the beach, knocking down a little girl who loses her kite, that promptly drifts into traffic onto a windshield, which causes a multi car pile up, that somehow only results in minor or no injuries, its crazy to see how much some locations have changed, and how some are still almost the same, Thanks for doing this series, looking forward to more
