Exactly! And I hate when people say natural hair is not for everyone , that's sort of like saying ears aren't for everyone well if you were born with them apparently they are. The hair that God gave me is for me. We are blessed to have such versatile hair and if for whatever reason someone prefers straight, that does not have to be done with chemicals.

@@glamglam8347 I don't think it's fair to say she doesn't like herself great you love natural hair and all that I'm natural biracial 3C/4A curls and I prefer mine straight because it suits my face better the length it's at and for my job I have to have it in a bun or ponytail so straight I can easily style pull it back without having to pull it tight once my hair gets longer I definitely will wear it natural I love my curls it's a personal choice it shouldn't be a debate its hair ok relaxers are bad I agree but there are many heat trained naturals but to say someone doesn't like themselves is unfair and really overboard it's just not that deep

Welcome back! I agree, we fought so hard for the crown Act and just as we're finding out how dangerous hair relaxers are, many people are going back to them. I think some of the problem is that we have made caring for and maintaining our Type 4 hair much too difficult. And childhood, it's thrived with very little effort. So, let's rewind and start this again and I think it would be very interesting if you visited beauty salons who specialize in natural hair. I've not been able to find one in my area. Let's find out what they are doing!😊😊 and, do they charge more simply because your hair is in the Natural State given to us by God?
@LethalLemonLime

people stay saying this like little girls with 4C hair were walking around with healthy hair down to their hips... like... this is obviously not the case as most people with type 4 hair did not know how to care for their hair when they went natural (and didn't know how to care for their relaxed hair either since most had short stiff dry hair). I'm not saying this to be mean but this kind of revisionist narrative is so weird and doesn't even make sense because if it were true, people wouldn't be going back to relaxers. If it were true, most people would have known what their natural hair texture looked like. Back when I went natural 10 years ago and even before I went natural, most women didn't know what their natural hair even looked like because all they could remember were relaxed hair. And the vast majority did not know a thing about caring for their natural hair and neither did their parents.

Depends on what you mean. 4b and 4c hair have a key advantage the other curl patterns don't have. That hair will hold braids and twists a lot longer. That means that you don't have to redo the styles as much. My hair will look old after a few days to a week. I know someone with 4c hair who could leave their braids in for a month. 4c hair is harder to detangle but it does hold the styles.

Your comments are spot on. Those type 3 videos gave me so much frustration in the early days of my journey. Time taught me how to work with and do beautiful things with MY hair. I wasn't doing anything wrong, unrealistic expectations were being set. And it did seem like a lot of YT content was coming from type 3. And i no longer buy into natural type 4 hair being difficult. Bc I'm not looking for t3 results or the t3 look.

As a Black man you inspired me to grow my hair out. I wasn't allowed to grow it out when I was younger and was forced to have a bald head or short hair cuts and it wasn't until I turned 28 last year I wanted to grow it out. I came across your channel years ago but forgot your name and thankfully you popped up in my recommendation box last year before I was going to cut my hair bald again lol. I watch your "Why I love my afro and why you should too" and How to be confident with type 4 hair" videos almost every day. Those two videos inspired me so much. Definitely my favorite videos from you and always liked how honest you are. You have inspired so many of us to grow our hair out and care for it Joyel 😊

😕 Yesterday I broke down because after 2 years of re-growing my hair, I just haven’t figured out how to make my 4c hair look continuously moisturized and I have so many textures, it just doesn’t feel or look “good” 😞. No matter how much product I put into it. And I feel so odd compared to wearing weaves with softer textures. So happy to see you are getting back to this - I just found your content not too long ago so it’s motivating to keep trying!

Have you thought about what you consider to be indicators of dry hair? If your hair isn’t damaged and you moisturize it regularly, it may be moisturized but look different than other moisturized hair because of the type of hair you have. Not all moisturized hair is shiny and soft to the touch. Doesn’t mean it’s not good or moisturized

👏👏👏 Glad to hear you'll be posting hair content more consistently. Few ideas for you...videos trying out different protective hairstyles, in addition to your salon idea you can film yourself getting your hair done at the salon (if you trust them!), you can try other natural KZfaqrs hairstyle tutorials and film how it comes out on your hair, those videos are always fun and get lots of views, you can get a few girls together with different textures and have a round table hair discussion in person and even virtual collab videos with other KZfaqrs. I think you have a lot more you can offer in this area, don't sell yourself short. Looking forward to it! 👊🏼

❤❤❤ How refreshing! I'm a dark skinned type 4 lady living in the Netherlands, been natural for over 10y but only ONCE cut off dead ends or anything in all that time 😱. So silly😢 3mo ago, weeks after graduating med school I did a big chop to start all over. 🎉 I've been very annoyed to see what has happened with the natural hair movement as compared to what it was in/around 2008. It used to be about embracing your natural hair in all its forms and shapes. It changed into an obsession with "definition", which oftentimes seems to be used as a kind of code language to say "hair that seems of a looser hairtype / or hair that is of an "acceptable" hairtype 🙄 I literally know several people who are "natural" but at the same time seem to be disgusted by shrinkage. They feel like if the hair is not weighed down with kilos of gel or something, just to make it more stretched, it's embarrassing to show and "undone". 😑 Or "looks dry". I've heard some extremely ignorant comments made about type 4 hair, even in my church, also coming from mixed people who were raised by a black father who appear to not have any self-love for blackness and seem t glorify whiteness. It's really sad to see, I think it's cultural in their case. Some cultures are extra self hating. But all this to say that your channel and you are very refreshing. May God bless you. Your hair is beautiful. But also great to see that you genuinely love your hair, and are not saying problematic stuff. I'm looking forward to more of your content.

As I searched for products to use in my family’s hair my experience was that the majority of videos coming up were of influencers with other hair types who being deceptive and even click bating. Thank you for continuing to share your natural hair experience. I have been relaxer free for about thirteen years. I have done two big chops since I retired eleven years ago. Both times because of heat damage caused by my own lack of knowledge and my reliance on hair stylists in an area that did not have natural hair salons. Your video just popped and I like your perspective on this whole natural hair movement. ❤I can’t talk for the US because I live in Europe and grew up in an afro centric German environment. My biggest issue I’ve been seeing for 13 years now is how people are using the label 4c. Many girls on social media would call themselves a 4c owner without owning these tight coily hair strands. We would try using their recommended creams and our hair would still not curl like them or appear silky shiny. Many of us were left behind because no one taught us how to do effortless washngos. So by consuming these loose textured hair videos, it really did something with our confidence. We only saw recognition when our hair is either kept in long twists & braids or it’s combed out into a huge afro. We barely saw role models showing us that 4c hair isn’t struggle hair that needs to be moisturised daily just to keep it soft. My biggest mind shift came, when I was seeing naturals with my 4c hair curl size & texture rocking wash&gos in 2014 while doing the maximum hydration method. Washing the hair more often while focusing on plant based curly girl method principles was my biggest light bulb moment, which lead me truly not chasing straight hair or a looser curl pattern anymore.

Its honestly a breath of fresh air. You have my 110% support all the way, I’m here for it🎉❤❤🎉❤

The only problem with 4C is when it starts to gray, the texture change and I’m at a lost. I’m one that went back to the perm and it’s the worst, I noticed my hair is only 4C about 3 inches up from the sides and back around to the other side, the top (bang) and crown is straight but kinky, never the feel of new growth. All my life I never knew I had more than one textures. My sister and I had perms growing up, she decided to cut her hair in her fourties’ and it grew out curly, smooth curly ringlets. I think I’m going to cut off the permed hair(at the 4C areas and leave the top heavy and trim as it grows out, because there isn’t anyway to determine what is new growth. The sides and nape you can’t get your fingers threw the new growth. The shrinkages is real in those areas.

Hello Joy-el! I absolutely love your channel. You are such a beautiful young lady, and know that you are truly loved here! When I first saw your hair. I said no way. That afro was thick and gorgeous. Then I noticed these other videos where your hair has grown. Love it! I have subscribed. Keep it up! Your content is definitely needed. I am sure you have gotten some pushback from your counterpart, but we are here for you!

DON'T STOP. You are changing lives❗I don't think it's due to European beauty standards. People are just giving up on natural hair, they think straight hair is just easier to deal with. It's not beauty it's convenience and laziness. I appreciate you, you are one of the people that help me stay strong on my natural hair journey

I think people should do what they want to do. We all only get one life to live, so we should live it how we want to live it. We don't see a lot of 4c women rocking their hair in it's most natural state for a variety of reasons. 4c hair is the most tangled and shrunken up, so certain styles can add to the tangles and make it harder to maintain. Sometimes it's easier to wear it stretched or straightened, and that's ok. We all should do what's best for us.

I appreciate your honesty! I agree Natural hair is not hard because it’s your hair. I’ve been natural consistently the last 12 years and I won’t go back to relaxers or texturizes. Thank you ❤

How cool is this, my name is very similar to yours and I too am mixed race with 4b hair. I find it's very rare to find another mixed person with actual type 4 hair. I decided to get microlocs a year ago and have never been happier. I agree it's weird when people say that natural hair isn't for them... You never hear straight haired women saying that.

Thank you. I appreciate you coming back. I have definitely struggled with wanting to go back to being relaxed, but I learned so much that I just refuse to. I can definitely say I have learned from watching your videos on how to take care of my 4c hair.

Thank you! So many creators are leaving “natural hair” content once their audience grows. So many say they started their natural hair journey on KZfaq for the purpose of sharing and helping other. Now, that they have a bigger audience, they say that they are bored with “natural hair” and want to branch out, which is fine. But content creator should not blame viewers when they are not getting as many views, they seemed to have forgotten that it was the “natural hair” content that attracted viewers in the first place. I started watching KZfaq because of my natural hair journey, when the platform changes, I unsubscribe. BTW, I have watched you for a while and you have helped me greatly. I loved the video when you showed you hair actually shrinking during the course of the day. Again, thank you for not abandoning us because we are STILL learning about the beauty of our natural hair.

I loved this video and I hope you decide to film videos in different natural hair salons around the valley. I’m from the Phoenix area and recently became natural so I would love to see the different stylists in the area.

Yay! I'm glad you're back and I just want to say I loved your home content so upload what you see fit as you see fit. Couldn't agree more I had so many unrealistic expectations about my hair, but I was lucky that I went natural during lockdown and had time to relearn. Everytime I see a relaxer video it reminds me why I went natural in the first place. Can't wait to see what you do next!!❤️

It's disappointing to see so many natural hair influencers go back to relaxers. Many of them say that taking care of their natural hair is too difficult and time consuming. But if that is the case, is a relaxer the only solution they could think of? Did they consider other ways of simplifying their routine? I would never put relaxer in my hair again. If my hair got too difficult or time consuming, I would cut it short or loc it before I would put relaxer on it.
