Chive Pesto has a garden fresh taste that goes with everything! I love it on crackers, fish, chicken, pasta, and more. Thanks for watching! Recipe ingredients are listed below:
1 bunch chives (3 to 4 oz)
2 oz slivered almonds
1 cup freshly grated Parmesan or Asiago cheese
1 cloves of garlic
Olive oil -- enough to achieve the desired consistency

We have chives! So many chives! Let's make this recipe, I say to my son. So he goes and cuts about 5 gallons of chives. Brings them in. Washes them off. THEN we watch the video and do a mis en place. Whoops. Almonds. Oops. No almonds. Maybe there's some pecans in the baking cabinet? No. Walnuts? Ugh. No. A packet of old airline peanuts? No. Ok. Well, we'll skip the nuts. Cheese. Parmesan. Oops. None of that. What cheese do we have? A frozen block of swiss. Yes, I see. In it went. What came out was STILL AMAZING. So good. We added a pinch of salt (swiss is far less salty than parmesan, turns out). We were eating it with a spoon, it was so good. Thanks for the recipe! As always, you teach great foundations and give people the courage to go waaaaay off script.

That looks so good!!! I always wing it making pesto so it is so good to have a demonstration! 💚🌿 And, I hadn't thought of using chives before, What a great idea! 💛

I too love chives, so thank you for this recipe. If I had no garden and only one pot, I'd plant it with chives. A very accommodating herb, gets along with everybody, and is so generous from earliest spring into fall. It's really very pretty in a pot, and isn't fussy at all.

I do love your garlic scape pesto recipe but I never thought to try chive pesto. Will definitely try it. If it’s anything like the scape pesto it’s going to turn out fab!

You have the best videos and recipes on KZfaq. I'm going to the garden, to cut chives now!! While I'm out there, I'll open my milk jug green houses. That was a great idea too!! Little did we know in January, when we planted them, our country would be in such turmoil with a pandemic. The new little plants make my heart sing during this confusing time. A new favorite of mine. You can also add a bit of lemon or lime juice to give it a fresh kick. I find that all pestos and especially the chive one taste better if you let it sit in the fridge for 24 - it brings out the flavor more. Also, you can also freeze after 24 hours - sandwich bags laying flat. Thaws on the counter quickly. When thawed - beat it and adjust with more oil, salt and pepper if needed.

Hi Cary! Water without salt boils faster (salt increases the boiling-point). Also -- if you are using a stainless steel pot -- pitting can occur if the salt is added before the water boils. (Or so I've read!)

Are common chives spicy & hot tasting also how different are they from garlic chives?

Hi DeMarcus - Common chives are neither hot nor spicy. They have a mild, onion-y essence. Garlic chives are strongly scented with garlic and pepper. Consequently I prefer common chives for pesto!

Garlic chives are quite pungent. For the best pesto, use common chives.

They looks like spring onion. The chives grown in my country are flat leaves. Interested to know how they taste compared to the ones i'm so used to

I have chives, but how do I know if they're common or not? What is the brand of your food processor? I found an answer: "Both plants grow in grass-like clumps, but while the common chive foliage is tube-shaped and grass-green, a garlic chive is a flat, blue-green blade. And its flavor is more garlicky than oniony, though not as strong or harsh as a raw clove of real garlic.Jan 25, 2012"

I used a blender and the chives are stringy. I used too much garlic too. Try food processor next.
