The road from Binga to Karoi was known as the Hostes Nichol Trail, the then Secretary for Internal Affairs. Intaf built the road, and the Sanyati, Bumi (now Ume) and Sengwa bridges were built by a company called Ballams. It was opened in the mid 1960's, and a little Morris 1100 with four adults in it made it safely from Binga, through to Karoi and thence to Karibe in a day. Their only incident was a dirty carburetor which was cleared by the District Commissioner who happened to be on patrol.

Looks fantastic. Best info on Chizarira I've found. OK long access but looks like it goes on a mountain bike, with enough places on the way for basic supplies. But can you cycle into the actual park? It looks good for bikepacking - with concerns over animals and water - but before investigating those issues, will the parks authority tolerate bikes?

Thanks, and I'm so glad you found it helpful. Technically you're not allowed into Chizarira on a mountain bike. There are lions, elephants and buffaloes there, after all. However, they have such low visitor numbers there that it's definitely worth having a chat to them. I would recommend just picking up the phone to talk to them. @@AfricanPlantHunter Yes thanks! Looks a classic trip if Park can support it. My experience is limited but Im hoping human wary animals would avoid cyclists better than i can avoid them! Armchair pedalling it looks possible to get tourist+bike on a bus to villages a reasonable days cycle from the park entrance. Looks beautiful country.
