I remember that toilet at Mucheni view. I was too scared to look unside it. Lit looked like snake paradise, used our portable toilet. Part of the charm it is a stunning spot.

Yes, I totally understand that fear. It does happen (snakes in the toilet), but not that often. Generally a good idea to check it out with a torch first though!

Wow! Your vids are great, beautiful and informative. Do we really need to book ahead for these remote places? Can't we just check in at the gate? I hate being constrained to a specific schedule... Thanks!

It is best to book ahead, but they will always find space for you if you just turn up. Chizarira has a hundred visitors a year, so you're unlikely to overlap with too many others!

Most places I have visited in Zim tend to have guy on site, whose rondavel is hidden away somewhere. Is this the case at these sites or are you genuinely on your own in the wilderness? Such a shame that, despite the sky high overnight prices, the facilities are so basic. $102 USD a night for six people to camp here in a country where state teachers reportedly earn 50USD A MONTH! You would think they could afford a metal bucket with holes bashed in the bottom for use as a shower. Don't get me wrong, I love your videos about this area, but wow - no wonder they get so few visitors. Every time I take a look at Zimpark's fees they seem to have shot up. $173USD to camp in Hwange picnic sites is robbery - the fences have fallen down and somehow there's no money. Somebody has it.

Hi, thanks for this and sorry for my slow response. I've been in the bush. Your points are fair. Actually in Chizarira there's no rondavel hidden away. You really are on your own at these campsites! I agree that pricing is a deterrent and I know this is an issue often raised with the authorities. Having said that, Zim costs are still reasonable compared to say Tanzania (where we paid over USD 400 a night to camp with 6 people at a totally undeveloped site in the Selous Game Reserve!).
