My 12 year old Yellow head Amazon Parrot calls the cat (imaginary), sings I love you, says what you doing, huh? and talks about herself -- until she gets irritated at the camera. This bird totally hates the camera so we were surprised to get anything.

You have a beautiful yellow head! Very similar to mine haha in terms of the feathers. Sadly my parrot picked a fight with his very large long time friend... A blue and gold macaw. And now has a ruptured air sac :[ never bothers him though and he's amazingly healthy and dive bombing everyone who gets near me! Yep.... The single person syndrome... The product of growing up alongside the owner. For 18 years. In the owners 20 years of life haha.

I was thinking of adopting a parrot. I think if anyone is considering getting one as well I recommend they adopt too. Parrots often outlive their owners and are left homeless. Also people are taking other parrots like the macaw out of the wild and they are slowly disappearing from their home. With the mentality of a parrot (which can be that of a five year old) they can experience traumatic things like their owners leaving. There's a PBS special about them, and I recommend you do your homework when looking for one. (easily googled) Chloe is a cutie btw :3

I have taken my grandmother's yellow- headed Amazon parrot. She is very unfriendly unless it is someone with a high pitched voice. She hates me even though I feed her and talk to her everyday. Not always a day in the park, but it was my grandmother's and I am an animal lover. Trying my best and open to advice.

You have my sympathy. My sister owned many exotic birds and loved them very much but one day sold them all. She had a disorder we didn't know about at the time. If I would have known she got rid of them because she was out of control I would have went and bought them back. I loved her one double yellow head like a child. He was about 10 in 1993. I still miss him :(

Chloe is gorgeous. I rescued a Double Yellowhead years ago. She just turned 37. Her name is Sammie. She meows, sings La Cucaracha, asks "are you a pretty bird?" Wolf whistles, tells ow, ow, ow... which a neighbor could hear, and hollered over asking me if I was ok lolol. She's says so many more things and she's still learning. There's a birdsitter video you can get on dvd for when you're at work, etc. Sammie loves it.

Question for you: Is that a DIY project, the pipes with the wood etc? or is that something you buy somewhere already built that way? I have a big cage for Bello and he stays on the top gym part all day, but I think he'd really like something like Cloey's gym.

If it's young it still needs taming so just go slow with getting it used to you. If it's a few years old and you live with other people it may be a bird that is sexually imprinted onto humans due to parental deprivation and likes someone else in your home so views you as a rival.

nardulli22 That is no valid reason not to keep him out of the cage. In fact, it could make him worse... I'm sorry, but that's animal abuse to not interact with him.
@kc-rg7jz
@kc-rg7jz 9 жыл бұрын
Hi uh, I'm actually Nardulli's sister so, I'm with that bird too. My bird is in no way under any sort of abuse, when everybody is out of the house, I let him walk around because I'm the only one he likes. I'm kind of like his mother in a way haha. And I, and others, interact with him everyday. He's pretty much the main focus(considering his obnoxious screaming). I love him and I pet him and speak to him everyday. So please, don't just assume things when you haven't been there.

They can be at times, but they love to roam around. Mine can't fly so we leave his cage open for him to stand on top of it. His wing was broken at a young age. The people we got him from abused him, so I'm really the only one he trusts and the only one he'll let pet him. I recommend keeping them from high places because they get dominant if they're higher up than you, which makes them loud.

destaney davis Please don't, these birds get extremely aggressive and will likely outlive you, once they past sexual maturity, they are extremely unpredictable. You have to be a certain kind of person to have a bird, especially Amazons, considering they are so hormonal and unpredictable. They are also not in any way a beginners bird, if you really want a bird. Do very extensive research, learn their behavior and their body language, and go for something small, I would say nothing larger that a Conure or Ringneck Parakeet. Not to mention Amazons can require up to 4 hours of attention a day. But don't trust me, I'm just an owner of one of the more aggressive species(Yellow Naped male), who has been saved from an abusive home. But yeah, go buy one and then get rid of it when he/she matures. Not to mention the overly crowded rescue centers.

HAHA amazons sound a lot like my little green cheeked conure. he's a feisty fellow, but he's such a sweetheart. He gets really excited to see people. He recently started mimicking everything I say. I started making this cute kind of long kiss noise and that's the noise he uses every morning XD he had a biting problem for a while but I corrected it. now hes learned to quack like a duck when he's irritated about the 4 hours of attention- my little conure requires a LOT of love and affection. he gets very solemn and sad if he doesn't get his play time and cuddle time. I love how birds are just like people and have their own personalities. I always treat him like an equal, and give him respect.
