Press them to your ears, what you hear is what you roughly will have with thinner pads of similar material. Lift them slightly off, without loosing contact, that is what you get with thicker pads. PU-"leather"= more bass Fabric: dryer and less bass, more treble and mids (or they stand out more, because the bass boom is reduced) Perforated: Somewhere in between There are some that have the side-walls with PU-"leather", and the contact surface with fabric. This is good for comfort and sound almost as good as the pure PU, if the size is kept the same.

After years of using various brands I bought a cheap non branded pair of bluetooth headphones recently, tbh there wasn't a huge difference in quality. Great sound, bass etc, but the ear pads... have a ridiculously small inner diameter and it's driving me crazy especially since I use headphones for hours at a go sometimes. This time before I buy the replacement ear pads, I have a few questions if you don't mind answering. 1.) Can you replace smaller ear pads for bigger ones? Current is 90mm the ones I'm looking at are 100-110mm 2.) Does velour leak sound?

Thanks for checking out the content. I'll try; 1. Fit is the main issue. Try to google the pairing you are after and see if anyone else has attempted your target match - you may be the first. A larger ear opening typically makes the heads tage/soundstage larger but also may introduce slightly more peaky treble due to reflections. Chances are you will be introducing more air volume to push as well, so you may need to turn them up to get the same bass impact. Lastly, if the ear pads are thicker, you will need to up the volume knob to get the same sound level, as the driver will be further from your ear. 2. Velour does allow sound to escape more than a solid surface. Typically a closed headphone with velour won't really leak much more than it did before, it will just loose a little bass impact due to no longer having a tight seal.

@@gamingaudioguide9292 Thanks for the prompt and detailed explanation. I've been scouring google for days now since the purchase and have found little help because their solutions are for specific brands and apparently other people who bought the same thing don't use headphones for several hours XD. Going with what you said, I'll just buy the replacement velour ear pads with a snug but more comfortable fit, think the soon to be new ones will have an average thickness of 2-4cm. Your single reply has been more informative and concise than most of the forums and reddit, thanks for the help!

@krishnanh7912

@@geegee9765 So it involves some factors. Gel pads are very tedious to clean and they do get warm after sometime. And regarding soundstage gel will be good for everyday headphones like Sennheiser hd450 or something, but for studio headphones velour is a better option. I also think gel is a little more durable but the gel one's cost double the amount of velour too. So according to these factors you can decide

Hey man, I'm struggling to decide between earpads right now. I currently have brainwavz microsuede pads (non-gel ones) on my closed backs and I love how they sound. However, they need washing regularly due to my oily skin and hair. I've been looking at some perforated sheepskin pads to replace them and I'm wondering how they compare. I don't really want the sound stage to change that much (I wouldn't mind a bit more bass though), but I just want something that's easier to clean. Do you think I should give them a shot?

@@krishnanh7912 pretty subjective and the brainwavz pads have some reputation; sheepskin - high quality, great seal - I take it you don't want these for one reason or another PU leather - lots of reviews with these flaking over time. they look comfortable and will have a good seal but I am not sure they will hold up micro suede with gel - I like these. good seal and comfortable. I would take these over PU but that is me. I have not tried their plain micro suede. It seems like it should be fine and have good seal but I have not tried them. Least amount of seal compared to others but still better than velour. let me know what you go with and how well it works.

@@gamingaudioguide9292 as a techhead I just wrapped some microfiber (specs cleaning cloth) around my ear and played some music. Even though it's not the most accurate representation, I like the way it sounds. If the memory foam is the same,the noise isolation should be same. and if the gel pad won't have any decrease in noise cancelling, I'll buy that. I'm confused 😅😅

@@gamingaudioguide9292 I got the gel pads, they're great. I think I've got a defective piece though. It's around 20 mm rather than 30mm claimed in thickness. The anc is as good. The stitching is also a bit uneven and it's heating my ears for some reason
