Chopin had written a number of songs at various times. Only two of them were published in his lifetime (Życzenie and Wojak), while some of them are lost. In 1857 the 17 then known songs were collected for publication by Julian Fontana as Op. 74. A further two songs were published in 1910.
The text of the songs are original poems by Chopin's Polish contemporaries. Only "Piosnka litewska" is a translation of a Lithuanian song.
The recording, on authentic period instruments, was made in Warsaw and issued by the Fryderyk Chopin Institute.

Absolutnie najpiękniejsze , najwierniejsze i najwspanialsze nagranie tych pięknych polskich pieśni Chopina ! Oba cudownie piękne głosy solowe -zarówno sopran jak i baryton przy znakomitym akompaniamencie . Wszystko poszło doskonale przy tym projekcie .Dziękuję serdecznie zarówno Pani Aleksandrze jak i Panu Mariuszowi i serdecznie gratuluję Państwu Obojgu i dziękuję za tak istotny wkład do kultury polskiej ! Dla nas Polaków język polski zawsze pozostanie najpiękniejszy ! Użycie fortepianu z epoki Chopina jest bardzo ciekawym pomysłem ,jednak pozwolę sobie zasugerować dokonanie ponownego nagrania przy użyciu współczesnego fortepianu a nie fortepiano . Sam jestem pianistą i sądzę ,że ponad 90 % ludzi wolałoby usłyszeć brzmienie współczesnego instrumentu. High regards Mr Goerner ! Thank you ! If you are referring to the recording, the pianist plays on a historical instrument. If you are referring to the text, some lyrics may be missing unfortunately, but it was the only score I could find with Polish text.

I realized it was a historically informed performance. I love Chopin on Erards and Pleyels. I was referring to the music itself. Some sections are omitted and don't agree with the sheet music. Hulanka for example. Anyway, I think the singer has a nice voice. Doesn't scream too much.

@Jenny-Thank you for posting these gorgeous songs! What Archis is speaking about I must draw attention to-there are weird, strange, and wrong interpretative matters in this recording. I do like the singers, and for the most part, the pianist is okay, but as an example, the first song "Życzenie" has a very famous piano introduction-Nelson Goerner's distortion of the rhythm is disturbingly wrong. There is no other way to say it-he is playing the incorrect rhythm, and having consulted endless 1st editions of the songs and countless recordings, there is no justification for this misinterpretation, or 'new' interpretation. Also, during the song "Hulanka" the pianist omits four vital bars in the ritornello every time. Was this his idea or the singer's? We don't know, but it's a lot like removing words from Hamlet's soliloquy, "To be or not to be, and by opposing end them." It's just wrong. On the other hand, your work on preparing the video was excellent! Thanks again.

@@user-xr1em8ux2c This rhythm in "Życzenie" matches the first edition published in Chopin's lifetime in Kiev (except that there there are two bars of drones added to the start of the introduction, so it's still not a complete match).
