Raed Al-Sabbab No, the best version is Zimerman's 1999 recording (together with the frist piano concerto) with the Polnish Festival Orchestra and Zimerman himself conducting!

I am surprised DG never issued this when Karajan died as he never recorded it commercially and he conducts it very well; Zimerman is superb; so fresh...

For sure Karajan conduct these concert, took place in Lucerne in 1980. If you have a look at the Karajan-Institut, you could see, the they repeat it in Salzburg at the same year. They made no recording because Zimerman redcorded it with Giulini.

I mean, even if you have never known about the existence of this performance, just listening to it for a few seconds and Karajan is confirmed at the wheel without mistake !! This fine chirp of the orchestra, the emotional handling of every phrase, the impeccable legato, the aggressive fury of the tutti and especially the final few bars...No, this IS Karajan, no mistake and this recording is THE best rendition of this brilliant concerto !! Zimermann here rightfully belongs !!!! I have compared it to most available recordings, the Zimermann'99 including.!!! Nobody even gets close !!! Thank you, Maestro !!

In Berlin, Karajan will not play this song.Cause in Lucerna. Playing with Giulini in the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra is quite good. The orchestra sings well. Giulini is re-studying Chopin.But 1999 is very best.

This does not mean, in the case of a CD recording. This admission could well be taken from the concert behavior.

I think, that this concerto Karajan does not conduct !!!! I looked in Zimmermann discography. Karajan conducts only Schumann and Grieg concertos in performance of Zimmenrmann !!!!!
