I couldn't agree more, and bless you for making that observation, Ma'am. He plays with great HEART and expresses real JOY -- rare in his age of ultra-brilliant, deadly accurate, steely-fingered, elegant-but emotionally sterile playing. Aljosa understands better than most what the music was written FOR in the first place.

"Best" is not a word I like when comparing performances at this level. But competitions are competitions! This performance is absolutely fascinating, the most interesting and intelligent I've heard. It's far more 'classical' than others and more beautiful for that.

AMEN! He plays with LOVE and true PASSION, and inspires the same in his audience. I've listened thm all, and ALL are terrifically good -- not one weak player in the lot -- but Aljosa Jurinic has that special something EXTRA that goes far beyond even the greatest demonstrations of highly polished expertise. It's too bad the judges, apparently, did not see that. I'm so grateful that I did.

SPLENDID! The audience obviously adored this young man, and I do too. Rarely do we get to hear playing with such character, merriment, spontaneity, emotional involvement and unrestrained joie de vivre. This player's body language shows how comfortable he is in front of an audience, and how freely he expresses the joy, tenderness, puckish good humor and VIVACITY inherent in Chopin's music. One can aways find things to criticize, but why bother? THIS kind of playing demonstrates the main POINT of wanting to perform and to listen to great works in the first place. This performance goes behind mere virtuosity. It is delightfully WARM, CAPTIVATING, BRILLIANT and stunningly ALIVE.

My favorite. Not because we r both Croatians, but because I think Chopin should be played with intelligence, passion and brilliance, and not too soft and emo. In my opinion Chopin in his opus incorporated the strength, force, passion, love for life & his country and a brilliance of expression that he wasn't able to convey fully himself, because of his health condition. Aljoša Jurinić with his amiability, articulation and confident elegance has embodied and conveyed all those qualities most of all the finalist that performed until now. That said all the finalists are excellent. Congratulations Aljoša, whatever the jury decides, you are the winner for me.

Sir, it was a pleasure to hear you perform your heart out. Looking at how the jurors have rated you, it is comforting to note that four of the 5 top laureates liked you consistently to advance to the next rounds until the finals: Argerich, Ohlsson, Harasiewicz and Yundi. Those are the people who, based on their judgment, have given you their approval of how you played Chopin's masterworks. Take heart then and flourish. We hope to see you here perform at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC one of these days. Please do add another section in your personal website: tour dates! Please do some all-Chopin record!

Generally good! :) many small mistakes and a bit too slow tempo, especially in the coda of the finale, but there is potential. Many passages are really beautiful, some others not so much but can be easily improved. I think it's just a matter of a bit more practicing and feeling "brave" on stage.

Wondering which "version" of score the piano part's performance is based on - Just a difference in interpretation as of pianist's personality. Compared with most of others's, less stream-phrasing, yet notes stress here and there - One of the reasons why got some finger-sticking sounding?!

+Carl Hopkinson Speaking about tempo: I only agree with you concerning the finale. In the 1st movement all candidats started too slow and then played the virtuosos passagges fast and faster. This is somehow a (bad) Tradition. And even if somebody would like to do in another way, it would be impossible to press the conductor to Change his tempo. This conductor is a Problem... So, if somebody would like to Play faster, he/she should here a slow intro and then start fast himself. And this is even worst than playing slow.

For all you commenting, saying he's "the best" and the most "unique," you're out of your minds. Get over your obsessions. I just listened to five of these, and they all sound amazing, particularly the Kate girl. Go find something more productive to do. Stop spewing your shallow opinions. Go learn something about music, or practice, or don't practice. Who cares? Just stop with this stuff.
@carlosmay7071
@carlosmay7071 8 жыл бұрын
I am reading the comments and I cannot believe. Personally, I find his playing shallow, technically insecure and more often than not going for outer effects. He looks in the air, closes his eyes, yet, the music doesn't happen. I believe he has loads of Croatian supporters. This is the only explanation for all the ludicrous comments about him 'being the best'. The other candidates at that competition were fantastic.

How ARROGANT, IGNORANT and annoyngly SUPERCLIOUS both of you sound. The young ma is a wonderful player in every regard. Technically insecure? You must be OUT of YOUR MIND. I earned three degrees in piano performance, and composition, studied with some of the best teachers in New York, have played this piece, and believe me this is a beautiful, fully realized performance. I love his fresh, honest, ROBUST approach to the first movement. As to tempo, most of them play it much faster than necessary,

When I was listening his live playing, I though he should deserve a prize as he handle the emotions quite well, although he made a few of mistake during his play (Sine I was literally sitting in front of the contrabass, contrabass sound covered the piano sound, so I could only hear around 6 mistakes, some tiny mistakes are acceptable in a competetion.) But when I listen his play again and again at home, couples of tiny mistakes with other couples of tiny mistakes become a huge mistake which cannot be accepted in final stage in an international competition. He seems quite nerves in the third movement, he made around 5 mistakes in a minute (From 34:00), which was punished severely. Overall, he made at least 30 mistakes in whole concerto.

How sick that every year after every year people have to perform this piece a million times, again and again, with different pianists, all for the sake of the petty absurd wasteful task of determining which one is "the best" when in fact they all are the same. If you can really play the piano well, every great pianist is just as good as you. This is just shameful that they make all these pianists play a Chopin concerto again and again and again. Imagine how bored the orchestra and listeners must be after all this. They should be allowed to pick any concerto they wish. I can't stand this competition, supported by Yamaha no less.
