Mr. Hayato Sumino impressed me a lot with interpretation of Chopin's Nocturne and Mazurkas.When he played Etudes, impressed me even more, only one great pianist came to my mind - Maurizio Pollini. The Ballade was stunning, I'll wait to october to hear more from this pianist,I hope he will be there.

I think people focus too much on Hayato and expect him to play like a finalist straight away and were judging as so. Some hates were due to the young fans overhyping him. This will always, always, give a negative effect because any little mistake will be amplified. People would stop listening to his music as a whole and will only focus on finding mistakes. They would not hear anyone's music that way. I'm glad that I came back to rewatch this again without reading the comments. He did well and I believe he will pass. Those pieces are difficult ones and he played them cleaner than many others, with only a few mistakes. The long applause of the audience shows this. Again, this is a very prestigious competition. Everyone you see here is already some of the best in their country, so please give them the respects and credits they deserve.

Thank you for praising Hayato Sumino. And I'm sorry to you and everyone who loves classical music. There were as many as 24,000 visitors on this day, many of whom came to see Cateen (Hayato Sumino), many of whom were not familiar with etiquette. However, there are many of his fans who love classical music, love Chopin, and follow good manners. We were quietly hiding and watching, so you couldn't see us. I think his existence is both a poison and a medicine. Because I started to love Chopin because of him. (I have learned about Chopin seriously, albeit for a short period of one year since Hayato announced his participation, and have watched all Sessions of the preliminary round.) There are many people on the Internet who, like me, have come to love Chopin because of him. Thus, for Chopin and for classical music, he plays a major role in "spreading." really sorry. But I want you to rest assured. Those with bad manners who only come to see Cateen will probably leave classical music soon. I hope that he will increase the number of fans of classical music.

Me too! The completion is finished. And the finalists are playing in all over the world. Unfortunately he was not promoted to to the final which I still feel sad. It doesn’t mean he should be awarded at least within top 6. The juries scores have been disclosed which appear many discrepancies among the juries. Regardless the result, what I want to listen again and again is different from the results. But there are some exception like Bruce specially variations of Morzart. Anyhow, I love Hayato’s piano very much.

So many amazingly talented musicians here, all of whom deserve the greatest applause, but Hayato Sumino's choice and performance of those Chopin pieces separate his artistry and mastery from the rest! Everything from the perfect opening note of the Nocturne to the flawless ending in the Ballade (that cadence alone!) filled with emotion, artistic vision and resonating intensity - simply brilliant✨✨✨ Huge congratulations on such milestone performance and all the best in the future!

In honor of all participants and Chopin. And I'm sorry to everyone who loves classical music.

I was there that day but I was more focused on watching him play. (I got so nervous watching him play nervously haha) I'll admit I watched the stream that day to watch Cateen but I was already watching live performances before I even found out that he was participating. Once I found out the competition was live from Poland I suddenly realized what he meant in his latest video description (where he played Etude Op 10 No 1 in the video). I felt a bit uncomfortable as their behavior was disrespectful towards other participants by disregarding them and exalting only Cateen. A few Cateen fans insisted on speaking Japanese even though Cateen had already insisted that they used English in his Twitter. However, I think it's a bit unfair to say that many of them were rude. I could be wrong, but I only saw about 20-30 different usernames that were repetitive and made rude and unnecessary remarks. That or....... I was just too busy watching Cateen haha
@Subaru.K8810
@Subaru.K8810 2 жыл бұрын
@@novulus5470 Thank you. You're probably right about the number of people. I watched all the preliminary qualifying from the beginning. At every time, some (possibly overseas) fans asked and leave "Is there Cateen?""When will Cateen play?" while others are playing, so classical music fans were tired of it. Therefore, I think that 20 to 30 out of 24,000 people were the cause of discomfort. But even a small number, I feel sorry as one of Cateen's fans. I"m busy to watching Cateen now too:)

The thing about Hayato performance is they're uninhibited. His interpretation is very improvisatory, spontaneous and in the moment. Not sure whether it match Chopin but he brings another side to Chopin, not just noble and poetic but also very passionate, dramatic and alive. I hope he can push the limit.
@cooldebt
@cooldebt 2 жыл бұрын
I think you have expressed this very well. I love his playing - the beauty and passion in his playing is undeniable and if his interpretation is a little 'modern' it might not fit the philosophy of the competition but that should not take away from his musicality and technical facility. He has drawn a large audience which is also, dare I say, much younger and it can only be a good thing to make classical music appealing to the next generation. I am so pleased that he is through to the 2nd round - maybe the judges (what a difficult job - and they will no doubt be criticised for their choices judging by the rather strident live chat) agree with you just a little bit!

About Hayato Sumino. I heard another contestants' performances. Hmm…. In his performance, I have admired him. Actually, however, his tune was a little bit dirty partially because he was not good at pedaling especially in Nocturne. And his touch was hard. So, his tune was slightly not beautiful. There was no song in 25-11 because of a lack of left hand's expression. But, throughout, I think that his performance was fascinating. His technique is good especially in Ballad. His touch was glittering in Mazurka. There was a cheerful song in etude25-4.

I'm here because of Cateen. But I think he was far from his top form in the preliminary. Normally, his piano is brighter, shinier and happier. (I don't know how to explain because I'm not a musician and have zero knowledge about piano. But that is how I feel) ... and, compared to the next girl, for me, she captures my ear from the very beginning until the end. (Plus, I like the way she concentrate by bending her face away from the audience.) I'm afraid that even if Cateen is in his top form, I don't think he can top that easily. ... This opens my ear that the world scale competition has a lot of genius that I have never known. I'm still rooting for Cateen because I know what he can be. Hope he can show this stage what he really is.

First, let me express appreciation to the competition for putting all these performances on the web. We plebeians never get to hear these competitions in this detail. So many awesome performers. I’ve been thinking for awhile that we are living in a golden age of piano performance and if this competition is any guide, there’s another generation of great performers to come. Like many others I’ve been waiting for Sumino-san’s appearance having enjoyed his YT channel during the pandemic. Performers who compose always fascinate me because they seem to have an idiosyncratic approach. (That’s why I like Conrad Tao-at least I think that’s why.) I am a rank amateur at the piano and have a horrid ear and wouldn’t dare rank these contestants at this level. But…I sure liked Sumino-san’s performance. A lot! I just hope the judges don’t hold his internet fame, and his forays into non traditional music, against him. To me he seems to find inspiration from his eclectic interests and I suspect if he comes out on top here, we will have 40 or 50 years of engaging music on the concert stage.
