Here's the next episode of Chordplay and another installment of The Chords Of Queensryche with an Operation: Mindcrime Special. This episode also officially kicks off "Metal Month" for the month of October on the LNL channel - so what are you waiting for, let's dive in!
This lesson takes a look at the plethora of eerie and spooky-sounding clean guitar parts sprinkled throughout the entire Operation: Mindcrime album. From intros and outros to those creepy segway and interlude moments - needless to say, this classic album is filled with clean guitar chords and riffs and this lesson features almost all of them.
The chord-based song examples in this lesson are arranged in chronological order and include songs such as 'Revolution Calling,' 'The Mission,' 'Suite Sister Mary,' 'I Don't Believe In Love,' 'Waiting For 22,' and many more!
If you're a Queensryche fan or just looking for some new chord-based ideas and voicings to explore - this is the lesson for you!
Give this episode a view, leave some comments/feedback, and please subscribe to Late Night Lessons - THANK YOU!

It's no secret Queensryche was heavily influenced by Pink Floyd, it's just that they were great at using Floyd song principles and making it their own . The kicker is MINDCRIME is playing itself out right now, as we speak on the global stage : it's only more magnified though. Every theme within this concept album is up to full speed right now , globally .

The best album ever recorded IMO. It's just genius and pure perfection, from the first note to the last. This video is obviously only about the (very tasty) guitar parts, but we have to give credit to Geoff Tate and how he effortlessly binds it all together with his masterful vocal performances. In his prime he truly was one of the greatest metal singers. Later on he developed some severe douchebag tendencies, but his performances up to and including Promised Land are just mind-blowingly good.

You just made the case for geof tate being the best lead singer ever. Imagine throwing that set of madness at your lead singer and have them not only be able to sing as well as he does but to create the songs that he did. I don't know how they wrote together but damn... I am a guitar nut bag as bad as anyone.... But Without the vocals that stuff is coarse on the edge of wtf.

No matter how anybody day went, this video is the pinnacle of it! Operation Mindcrime is one of the most badass albums ever created. DeGarmo was a musical genius. My opinion is he crafted and guided the sonic structure of every song Queensryche ever did while he was with them. Such a shame he left. I'd love to hear him play again. Him and Bratta!

Definitely one of the all time great guitar duos! Wilton and Degarmo played off each other so well. Chris was (is) a master of tone and Wilton can shred with the best of them. I was really bummed when Chris left the band to pursue another career, but he is still around if you look carefully. He toured with Jerry Cantrell back in 98 and played on Drone, by Alice in Chains on the Rainier Fog album. Anyway, sorry for rambling but I cannot say enough Chris and that original Ryche line up!!! One of my primary influences growing up. Thanks again for another great video!!!

Great lesson! Absolutely love this album, and all their first 4 albums (and EP). Their growth from their EP to Warning, Rage for Order and Mindcrime was incredible. I do think Mindcrime was influenced by Pink Floyds The Wall, which had lots of clean/acoustic interludes. Not to take anything away from Mindcrime, it stands on its own as one of the greatest concept albums.

David, this episode is excellent. It's only missing all the other songs on Mindcrime (no pressure!). Used to drive 5 nights a week back and forth along the California coast from the East Bay to Santa Cruz, BLASTING this album with the windows down, singing/screaming along with Geoff's great voice, always in awe of the riffs. I'm ALL IN on Metal Month thanks to you. There's never a need to apologize for what you love. There are no "guilty" pleasures. If something gives you pleasure, just enjoy it to the fullest. I'll be tuning in as often as I can, hoping you get around to DIO's Holy Diver before Halloween... Cheers! LW

Listening to just these chords and how they move and create these soundscapes is a masterclass. DeGarmo and Wilton where an awesome song writing team. I’m sure they worked together to come up with these interesting progressions. This is what gave Queensryche a progressive sound and made them unique.

This is one of best teachers to student lesson I've ever heard. The detailed description from understanding the actual chord name and structure makes all the difference in the world. I've had so many awful teachers who I believe never understood music. Or how to actually pronounce the proper chord language as spoken in this video. Had I actually been taught this understanding years ago I may have been a great player. Wow your a special teacher for sure. Thanks. Also Savatage has some super creepy Halloween sounding chords.
