The old Whitesnake with Bernie Marsden and Mick Moody was outstanding..Live In The Heart Of The City was my favorite hands down..

This is my favorite period from them. I saw them the first time in 1980 and every song blew me away as I had not heard any of their records yet.

This era of Whitesnake is one of my fav bands ever and Bernie Marsdenis one of my favorite guitarists. Thanks for the lesson!

The Moody/Marsden era was by far the most interesting time for the band. Jon Lord was also a longtime band member with Ian Paice appearing for a period as well before moving on to play with Gary Moore a lifelong friend of Bernie's. Neil Murray had things covered on bass and if you listen carefully his playing is amazing and plays to the song while displaying his ability. Unfortunately Bernie, Ian and Neil had left by the time I got to see the band on the '82 Saints & Sinners tour and had been replaced by Mel Galley, Cozy Powell and Colin Hodgkinson. Having not heard of Mel or Colin before I was a little disappointed on the night. Seeing Cozy and Jon in full flight made up for it. Later learning about Mel and his career and friendship with Glenn Hughes and seeing him again on the later Slide It In tour earned him a place in my heart. His subsequent accident which hindered his playing and his drive to continue is inspirational. For me this was the best time for the band. The history of all of these players connected in some way through Deep Purple, Paice Ashton Lord, Trapeze and the camaraderie was what made it special. They were friends through friends long before social media. They knew someone who knew someone and that bond showed on stage and was genuine. Their performances were just a group of guys enjoying what they were so lucky to be doing. Don't get me wrong I love john Sykes. He is an amazing musician. Let's be honest if there wasn't a Whitesnake performing the songs off of the '87 album and John had recorded them solo or with Blue Murder we would still be talking about those songs today. The fact that the record label went with the higher profile vehicle just clarifies that they are more interested in money than in talent. Doug Aldrich another great player but the homogenized sound of what people perceive to be rock is prevalent in Whitesnake today. In the early days the music had soul, a heartbeat, a dynamic which is lost on modern ears. The players themselves put their all into what they did because it was that or go hungry. Their hunger for success was what drove them. Today Coverdale is considered rock royalty so what else is there for him to achieve. Therefore the reason why his last offering is not memorable in my opinion but then again I am way past my formative years.

Love the early Whitesnake I was lucky I got to know Bernie Marsden quite well when I worked at the national theatre in London and he did played the music in two plays

I remember seeing the video for Slow and Easy on MTV at my friends house in the early 80's. I remember thinking "I want to do that!". I was dumbfounded by how awesome it was. Go watch it if you've never seen it.

Although I had friends with earlier Whitesnake albums and went to a concert, when Slide it In came out it was all over. Still one of my favorite albums, love every song, listen from beginning to end and it's been almost 40 years! 🤘

David Coverdale is one the all time greats ... I saw Whitesnake in 1984 in Norman, OK with Cozy Powell on drums and John Sykes on guitar with Quiet Riot opening up ... what a concert ... back when bands toured extensively ... love the lessons David !!! ... I think Fool for Your Lovin’ was originally recorded with Bernie Marsdem and Micky Moody and later re-recorded with Steve Vai

I thought Slide It In was in open G. Thank you for confirming it. I love Whitesnake. I remember I was starting a job at a large company with a bunch of kids and I said I liked Whitesnake. This was 2014. One of the kids said, "You're kidding right?" And of course I said no not at all. And I think that since then Coverdale has reclaimed a lot of validity. Much more than a hair-rock band. Although there's some great hair going on too.

great ! would like to see more lessons about marsden/moody !! my favourite album : come and get it . i always hated mr.C`s "horny attitude" though ( also : g.simmons, d.l.roth, etc). when bernie and mickey left i was done with whitesnake. as much as i like the original version of "here i go .." i really cant listen to the "heavy" version with sykes - totally different stuff to my ears...

Best period of the band for me . Good old classic rock and blues before the big hair and double entendre sleazy lyrics. I saw them a couple of times in the 80’s and always felt a bit uncomfortable while David C thrusted his hips and flicked his tongue at an audience 90% of which were male . Great lesson though and no groin thrusting from Dave B ~ there is always next time I suppose 👍🇬🇧
