RIP Mikio.

This is my favorite version of my favorite song. Here the girls are mourning Mikio, the guitarist of the Kami band, who died after falling from an observatory during an astronomical observation. With this tragedy and Yui's departure, it was a dark period for BABYMETAL. They will continue to sing and dance, believing that shine will return once again.

From the 10 year interview SU-METAL: The performance of Shine started with MOAMETAL standing on the stage alone with her guitar, it was like she wasn't the MOAMETAL I had known. For that performance, well actually, year by year, she's really become someone I can rely on. That side of her keeps coming out more and more every year. Even when we sang Shine, while we weren't literally holding hands, it was if we really were hand in hand, like we were communicating with each other. There were also many parts in the choreography where we looked into each other's eyes. To be honest, there are still many things that we're anxious about, but I was able to reconfirm that we're going to move forward and that we're going to be ok, so long as we're together.

Su and Moa make eye contact all the time. It is actually a very endearing part of a lot of their performances. I also like that you are approaching these more as a fan. I think we all know that as dancers they may not compare to dedicated professional dancers. But as a complete package they are unparalleled IMHO.

The symbolism of the guitar and all the lights going up was very moving 🥺🥺

That was excellent, I am so pleased you chose to react to 'Shine' again - and especially to this particular performance. Thank you. It is absolutely one of my own top favourite songs as well, but this performance at Legend M is quite possibly my favourite performance of any song and I would argue it was also Su-metal's finest vocal performance to date ... and then we add Moa's dancing and the significance of the acoustic guitar. As you know, many of us believe, even though it has never been stated or confirmed by anybody officially associated with BABYMETAL, that the Trilogy of Lights is a tribute to Mikio (RIP) (and quite possibly to Yui as well). Not only the lyrics of the three songs, but this performance in particular make it very hard to believe there is not some truth in that. The guitar itself is rumoured to have possibly been one of Mikio's own guitars (and if not then it is either a replica or the same model as one of his guitars). The way this performance starts with just Moa alone playing the guitar (or pretending to play - again rumour has it she pre-recorded the acoustic guitar but was too nervous to play it live on stage on the night) is special, then Su emerges through the smoke to join her. Yes they seemed to have a lot of eye contact and using the guitar at the centre of the stage as the third 'person' in the choreo. Everything they do - Su's vocals, Moa's harmonies, their choreo - just seems genuinely heartfelt. As we explained previously about 'Shine' in the context of the Trilogy, it is about coming to terms with and accepting loss ... and the way Su and Moa turn and walk off stage together, shoulder to shoulder, leaving the guitar on it's stand just embodies that acceptance. This was Legend M, they had an Avenger there, the fact it was just Su and Moa and the guitar on stage for this song - this performance was all about them. I loved this reaction, thank you again - I'm going to watch it again now.

Excellent reaction/analysis, thanks! This is by far, my favorite live performance of "Shine" (of course). And not only because of the special choreo with the guitar as a pivot but also because Su-metal was on fire. It's very subtle but you can notice it sometimes. And here, during the middle part right before the break, she's singing with her heart. That's so special and hits me emotionally. 🤘🦊

Many fans consider this song to be a requiem for Mikio Fujioka, who died in an astronomical observation accident in 2017 (not officially announced). That guitar is his memento. It's a song that doesn't have a hit ,But I love this song. Thank you for your nice reaction!

The duo and trio versions of the same song feel completely different. This also made me feel the charm and magic of choreography.

Great reaction. ❤ The first time you reacted to the Legend Metal Galaxy show, which is the only time all 3 Trilogy of Lights songs were performed back-to-back. This one was from the Legend M show celebrating Moa's 20th birthday and the setup with the guitar is believed to be homage to Kami guitarist Mikio (RIP) which really adds to the feeling of loss expressed in the song. While Moa wasn't really playing the guitar here, I have heard (though not confirmed) that she did record the acoustic guitar track in the studio.

This was recorded at "Babymetal Arises - Beyond The Moon - Legend M" (commonly referred to simply as Legend M) in Nagoya for Moametal's 20th birthday in 2019. This is my favourite single Babymetal performance ever; it's such a personal, intimate, and emotional tribute from Su and Moa to the friends lost along the way. The only word I can find to describe it is sublime. If there is one Babymetal show that I could go back in time to go to, it's this one.

The "Trilogy of Lights" is an amazing group of songs. I'm more partial to "Arkadia" but you can't have this group without "Shine" it's a just a quite time to center yourself listing to this song. So soft and beautiful.

Thanks for the good cry today. I needed it. I can never get through this version with out bawling like crazy. This was one of the moments when you can see the intense connection between the girls. A true "Us vs the World" moment.

This is a live performance celebrating Moametal's 20th birthday, and she is using an acoustic guitar that was left behind by guitarist Mikio Fujioka, who passed away in January 2018. Although it is not an official announcement, this song is said to be a requiem for him. I think the reason why the two of us performed alone is also there.

"Shine" has been performed total 8 times only to date (7 times in 2019 + 1 time in 2020. Two-girl performance was only 2 out of the 8). I really look forward to the revival of this song in near future.

The emotion and chemistry between Su and Moa if they touched hands i think a supernova would of happened 😮 did you notice the guitarists behind them i think that is the 3rd person in my opinion in the courography. Thanks for this reaction, a very important performance... Sadly I think Moametal isn't really playing, she seems to be afraid to perform it, she feels she doesn't practice enough. Babymetal has always used looking at each other to make sure they are doing OK when performing, so they are very used to it. They used to do this because of the high energy performance they wanted to make sure the others aren't having a bad day and/or want to give them an encouraging look to keep going. In Sakura Gakuin they learned from early on, after every performance they discuss how it went. So they still do this do after every performance, on a Babymetal tour after a performance they discuss it over dinner/catering food. You made a great choice for your favorite song.

Awesome reaction. I'm so happy that you've finally seen this version of Shine. It's one of the fan faves😊. Also, when 2018, aka the dark side, happened, that was when Yui was inactive, with only Su and Moa trying their best as a duo. Together, they supported each other. In their live, they always make eye contact a lot, like cheering and supporting one another. Because, that time, there were so many questions and maybe hate to the management (not the girls), but they were boo-ed when they first appeared without Yui, they were so scared, but couldn't answer the fans about Yui's absence (idk why Koba couldn't explain it before the tour). I guess for me, that's when their bond really became stronger.

I love this version - Legend M was a great concert - especially the opening with Moa. SO glad to see how much you seem to like their music now in that you don't seem to be jumping straight into your expertise area :P (I find many experts in their field miss a lot of Babymetal by focusing on one area). I never considered their choreography too much (although I liked it) but it's become increasingly important to me that they put more effort in this side as I feel that the 2 "side" girls (Moa has improved a LOT imo) and the band seem to be much less involved in the newer stuff - Su feels quite dominant often, and on occasions it feels the other 2 are almost lost for what to do. Oh.....great reaction to a beautiful song :P

I am always brought to tears by this video, but this particular iteration with just Su and Moa is just the best of them all. Combining the sorrow of the losses of both Yui and Mikio is just so palpable you can feel it. It looked to me a couple of times that you were stroking your arm to feel the hair stand up. I, and probably every other big Baby Metal fan, suffer from the same thing with this song. And if you look at it, the two occurrences are related, with Su, Moa and Yui being together in Sakura Gakiun for a really big portion of time, like they grew up together; and with Mikio, they pretty much grew up around the Kami Band. I believe the first time Kami Band played live on a video with them was in 2012 and they had to have had some connection to the band prior to that, so it was a pretty long time also. And from what you can see of Mikio in videos when not performing, he seems to be a very personable man always having a smile on his face. And I think in this video Moa goes above and beyond in her performance that is so obviously heartfelt. I wouldn't be a bit surprised if they both broke out in tears after leaving the stage. I like this the best of the entire Trilogy of Light. The songwriter did an amazing job with the lyrics and the way in conveys the sadness and loss.

[GIRLS DANCE PROJECT] Street Dance Performance Video (I AM ME)

Amuse management after Yui officially left proposed to end Babymetal. Su and Moa then told them they wanted to continue. 2018 was an off year in my opinion. They were afraid their fans would not accept the as a duo, but They Did. So they soldiered on with a crowded stage of dancers with Su and Moa nearly lost in the crowd. This is 2019, the year of the Avengers. Not sure if they had been introduced at the time of this concert. One interesting thing regarding the Avengers was 1 of them was Su's "rival" and friend from her time at ASH. Perhaps having her BFF with her on tour was a help!! FYI, her friend was a major Jpop Idol!!
