And based on other interviews and even in Tinashe's music she says she doesn't like to be forced in a box, she's a very experimental artist and very talented but that turns off mainstream listeners. Her feelings are mostly towards her record label trying to push her into being an r&b or pop artist, when she doesn't want to be either, she just wanted to make music. It didn't make sense in her mind (musically) to put the label's biggest artist who is a major r&b singer on her pop record. I'm pretty sure she understands it was done for numbers.

What people don't realize is Tinashe is very successful. Yes she doesn't have these 100 million streams and isn't commercially recognized anymore like on radio. However she's mostly independent after separating from her label she writes and produces and creatively directs most of her songs. There is no big label pushing her like Chris Brown ( not saying he needs pushing however it does contribute to his longevity as an artist) she doesn't get posters and much ads on her music, most of her promotion is her alerting her fans on Instagram and other social media and interviews she gets. Now considering all of that the fact that shes able to still do good streams and tour worldwide and it still sell out (just last summer she toured Europe, US + more) just shows how much of a strong fanbase she actually has. Her career is very much alive

I think for tinashe the problem was more with the song than with chris. she had said before that RCA wanted her to make pop songs but she always wanted to stay on the R&B lane, which is her lane I mean 6 critically acclaimed albums in a row, she was actually calling out her past label.
