Before I even watch this, I want to say that there have been so many artists before Chris Brown who've abused women and they're careers never ended. Black and white men and who knows maybe some women. But it just goes to show that women aren't truly protected. With Chris Brown, so many of his fans are Black women, who condone that behavior and blame the victims. Look at how these women are still supporting R. Kelly, knowing he's a vile human being. If I'm being honest, when it comes to Chris Brown, it took me awhile to listen to his music again because after seeing Rihanna's face, it triggered the shit out of me. But over time, I forgave his actions because I've forgiven my abuser. I'd be a hypocrite to hold onto that. Not that Chris Brown knows me from a can of paint. I can't get with R. I saw that performance and I can't lie, it actually made me emotional. I have compassion and feel compassion for him. He's a broken person. When Rihanna went on interviews talking about it, she didn't own up to her own abuse towards him. It doesn't make her any less of a victim but I think she could've taken some accountability. People might think that's victim blaming but its not. She's the one who was the aggressor in the situations that we know of. I was in a similar situation in my late teens/ early 20's. My boyfriend and I would argue alot and it got physical. I'm the one who started those physical altercations. He didn't do the kind of damage that Chris did to Rihanna but he still hit me back. That's why even though I place Chris at a higher level of accountability, Rihanna is still accountable for her part. But of course everyone was, "poor Rihanna." I understand both sides though in this situation. He didn't go unphased. He definitely was labeled as an abuser and his abusive ways didn't stop with Rihanna.
