My son did some work for a charity Chris Cornell was involved with and was invited back stage to meet him after a concert. He has a photo with him, their arms around one another. He said Chris was as down to earth and genuine person as he'd ever met. The photo is a treasure now, of course, as are the memories, which are now bittersweet. What a loss to the world.

@@jonathanrandall4140 it's not 'the easy way out'. Depression is not easy, suicide is not easy. It's battling a war in your head every day, hoping you'll survive but not seeing a way how to... until that illness becomes too much to carry. I'm not going to say 'I hope you understand that' because the only way to understand depression is to experience that, and I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy- but I do hope that you understand you don't know what they were going through, and thus can't judge them.

@@Ariel_thenotsolittlemermaid You make an excellent, reasoned argument, most of which I agree with. As a child of depressed, alcoholic, narcissistic parents, I can sympathise more with Chris Cornell and Chester Bennington's families. In my opinion, once you have a child, you live for them (in most part). I believe suicide, in these instances, IS the"easy way out". Much easier than repairing yourself and making amends to those you hurt. Thanks for your thoughtful reply.

My parents have been married for 43 years. They first met at a baseball field at 13 and 14, later my Dad was riding in the back of a truck and was in a serious accident infront of my mom's house they were 15 and 16 reconnected, they lost touch my mom married at 19 divorced at 21, three months later they ran into each other at a lake; they were 21 and 22. They married year and a half later. My Dad always sung this song to my mom. It always brings back those sweet memories of me being a child and seeing how in love they are. ❤

Chris, your beautiful voice, soul, and compassion left me speechless and in tears. I never got the chance to see you live, but you are one of the biggest reasons I am still walking today. My brother committed suicide on May 18, 2013..... 4 years later on the same day, Chris took his own life. I dedicate this to my brother. I’m sorry I wasn’t there to see you were hurting and in pain. I’m sorry you had a heart attack in 2005, and another one in 2007, and another one in 2009 that required open heart surgery, and another heart attack on your wedding anniversary In 2011, and the last one that you said “ hurt too bad” I’m sorry you went to our old abandoned school with a 9 mm and died right there in front of the old entrance to our school ...alone. I hope you have some peace now. Peace that escaped you on this earth. I’m turning 45 next week. Brother, I’ll be one year younger than you were when you took your life. I miss you. I hope you and Chris are playing guitars together. You loved to play so much. You tried to teach me when I was little, but I couldn’t get it and gave up. I’m getting a guitar next week and I’m going to learn how to play. I love you David. And I’m sorry every day of my life. We did not have a Good Father. He was a horrible father, horrible grandfather, horrible husband to our mom and she stayed with the son of a bitch until 2011. And anyone who knew our father wouldn’t dare disagree with one word I’m saying. I know what he did to you. You know what he did to me. I don’t believe the devil will accept him In hell. Rest brother. “ If I cant have you right now, I’ll wait.” I’ll make you a red velvet cake next week. Your favorite!!! I’ll talk to you later. Tears 😭

As you look in awe at a mighty forest and it's grand majestry, Remember me. I also do not usually like covers, but I agree with you, this one is kinda smooth and O.K. Chris's voice does not have the rasp that Axle's does, but Chris's voice has a soulful sound that makes this cover work.

@April 2520 Wow, you are just discovering him! Lucky you, you are in for a treat! Enjoy. I recommend Chris's acoustic, solo stuff. He toured on his own later in life and played his songs from Soundgarden, Temple of the Dog, Audioslave, and his own solo records. He also did a lot of great covers, like this one. A lot of depth to his lyrics, and a lot of emotion in his voice. Unfortunately the pain got the better of him.
