A detailed look at the car that will aim to travel at 1000mph. And then a ride with driver Andy Green in his Extra 300 stunt plane to demonstrate the G-forces he will experience during the record attempt. We love every second of this film. A truly inspirational project.

One of the whole underpinning ideas of the Bloodhound project was to get people excited about science and engineering. I believe everything they do is opensource info. No secrets, open access. What a brilliant way to get people excited than to hinge maths and science around a 1000mph car? This documentary does a good job of showing that just because something is difficult or complicated, it can still be really exciting. We have a bit of a problem with this concept in the UK. Just look at how intelligence is reported in the press. It' always 'Boffins at the University...' or really smart people are referred to as 'nerds' or 'geeks'. People celebrate Joey Essex, a grown man who claims to be unable to blow his own nose, yet the brightest minds get the piss taken out of them. Time for a change I think.

This applies only in certain contexts. You want an example where it doesn't apply? I know fully how a firearm firing a projectile bullet works, but I'm still dead scared if someone points the barrel of a loaded gun at me. Context is important when you're saying "maxims of life" or idioms like that. There's rarely a universal rule that applies in all contexts. That said, the guy definitely has a point with what he said if you view in the right context. If you prepare and are fully knowledgeable ahead of time it removes the "fear" or anxiety/stress of doing something later, like performing. There's no need to be afraid if you know you're totally prepared. It gives you confidence which helps remove that type of fear.

@linvesel
@linvesel 9 жыл бұрын
***** I don't think that is ever going to happen. I mean Jeremy becoming too old for Top Gear. I am sure that he is hiding his real age. There has been surfacing documentation showing that Jeremy had received initial support and funding for Top Gear from Catherine de Medici herself. However, it wasn't until her husband, Henry II, died, when she gained access to the French treasury and could allocate significant funds to support Jeremy's venture. The lack of video recording technology at that time is unfortunate, indeed. It should be noted that Catherine de Medici's investments in Top Gear were so large that they caused a nation-wide uproar, which resulted in a civil war, lasting through the reign of her three sons, Francis II, Charles IX and Henry III.

It had me hooked from the start and it makes me incredibly proud knowing that this is being made in Britain, and more than that, It's being made in my home town, Bristol. Fantastic video and a fantastic project. I'm a massive fan of Chris, and watch all of your videos but I must admit that this has been the best one yet. +YakoffShmirnoff The reciprocating engine is such a small part of the project yet it gets more attention than any other single component. It's only a fuel pump for the hybrid rocket engine. Doesn't that make you wonder what sort of a monster it's feeding? Good as this is, I was a bit disappointed that he spent too much time on the car engine - which provides no motive power for Bloodhound - and very little on the jet engine or the rocket. The pump itself - which is explained in one of the videos on the Bloodhound site - is just amazing. I just wish he didn't describe it as a hairbrained. It's actually quite routine for multi-fuel rockets. It's just that calling it hairbrained discourages people from understanding it. The flight profile was excellent. Try sitting in your computer chair and tensing your gut and leg muscles for the timeframe of the profile and you'll find it's quite exhausting.

well the McLaren f1 has a bmw engine in it and the germans keep on shouting about it like they made the hole car.... what they forget is muray gave direct specifications to bmw on what the engine would be like in different areas...Then and only then did they build the engine.. He did not just ask them for a fast engine... he gave specifications on how it would be figured.... SO YES WE WANT A BRITISH ENGINE IN THERE...
@Noise-Bomb
@Noise-Bomb 7 жыл бұрын
that is not true. The F1 engine was based on the S70 v12 of the 850csi and was modified in house by the team of Paul Rosche - the guy who was responsible for the BMW f1 turbo engines which Muray used in the Brabham in 1986. also the S70/1 version was planned to power the BMW M8 which sadly never went beyond the prototyp stage. The S70/2 and /3 versions were modified versions for the F1 and made from 627 to 680 hp. The F1 was a marvelous car designed by Muray but the engine wasn't his work.

Chris firstly congratulations on the whole story; you have added so much knowledge to so many people that in itself is inspiring - wow. You did it so well and yes you may have been joking about a bit when walked through the construction of the vehicle but that too was wonderful. I want to congratulate the team and praise the ingenuity and innovation associated with this project - wow. I am going to check out how I can get my name on the tail fin if only to say in a minute way Australia helped (that's perhaps a little to cringe worthy), perhaps I should say Britain's bold audacity inspired an Australian to help out. Thanks Chris for a wonderful piece of reporting. I love your approach, your style and I'll stay subscribed as long as you keep allowing a little bit of your quirkiness to bubble up. Cheers and sincere thanks Stephen

Have been saving this video to watch and I must say it was again one of the best videos on KZfaq. This and the story about Goodwood Historics race that was done last year are sublime. Keep up the great work Neil and Chris!

Has to be one of if not the best episode. And he said he would be driving it next year. But because this was probably filmed to close to the new years. Was this filmed "last year" as in he will drive it this year? Or will he actually be driving it in 2016? Not sure how long it takes you guys to film/edit/upload something of this nature, especially because its nearly a hour long.

Dunno if I've ever gotten such goosebumps from watching two guys chat. So many mind-boggling details, not the least of which involved the blueprinted, supercharged, V8 Jaguar FUEL PUMP! Truly engineering porn. You may have convinced me to get my name on that fin!

That's nothing compared to the rest of it. In fact, they're probably going to drop the piston engine for an electric motor. Makes more sense.

LOL!! Who cares as long as it's efficient? In terms of space and convenience electric power makes more sense, especially if all you have to do is to change the battery at the end of the first run.

Reminds me of that great post on what happens with a dragster, on a run. Like where it would take the power of a Dodge hemi just to turn the supercharger! If you've never read it, look it up. Amazing!

The rush received from the Bloodhound simulation alone was better than most massive production movies I have ever watched. The feeling of connectedness to what was happening in that cockpit was unsurpassed to any video you and your team have created in the past. If I could only get my ears on the tune that was playing during the simulation, that would leave me even more ecstatic. Wonderful video and I look forward to hearing/seeing more from the Bloodhound team and CHOC as well.

Thank you for posting this. I take particular interest in LSR cars because my father, Keith Schinbeckler, built one in the early sixties, powered by a supercharged Allison V1710 out of a P51 Mustang. The project was abandoned after Art Arfons set the LSR at 434 and change in the rocket-powered Green Monster II. The LSR disorder is fortunately rare, but I continue to hold a great deal of respect for the men and machinery that continue to probe the limits of contemporary engineering.

This video is just mind bogglingly good! To have a show with this amount of quality period, let alone on KZfaq, is just superb! Many many thanks to Chris and Neil! As a mechanical engineer student, I really appreciate the effort you go through to display the sheer amount of design- and manufacturing work that goes into a machine such as the Bloodhound. All that coupled with the fact that the project has probably the most charismatic interviewees made this all the more enjoyable to watch. Again, many MANY thanks to Chris, Neil, and the Bloodhound team, all the best to all of you and a warm greeting from Finland
