My uncle Johnny sang this for me near the end of his life, he loved music his whole life and Chris Stapleton pretty much wrote his struggle when he wrote this song. Missing him now- thank you Burt

Seen him live a couple times now and the gut punches about put me down. He’s been doing traveler as part of his acoustic set and it’s ridiculous, as is this song.

I love how much space he puts in this…bothe lyrically and musically in this acoustic performance. Even in the album version it’s really simple and not over produced. Just simple. Love it!

To me, Elephant by Jason Isbell Is the biggest gut punch song ever. Maybe one of the most honest songs ever, also.

I love his songs like this, two of my other favourites in this vein are The Devil Named Music and Simple Song. Simple Song in particular gets me in the feels every single time. No matter how much life kicks you in the balls, as long as you have your family, life ain't so bad. Simple message, but so strong.
