Literally if he didn't say "for the first time", I would've thought oh maybe he's talking about having a normal life with a woman and a kid, but he did that for a year with Lisa and ben, Dean did experience the normal life, so why would that be a new experience or something for the first time? And what specific "people" is he talking about? It just doesn't make sense, I really tried to find other explanations or other interpretation for this scene and I honest to God can't.

I wish you'd included the line that triggers dean to think about this and say all this. The priest says, "The prayers are just the beginning to some serious soul-searching." What did that make him think of? Who does Dean pray to? There's your answer as to who the scene was intended to be about, but you can interpret it however you'd like.

had castial appeared on the show as a woman they would have been in love from the start, it would have been a love story straight up. everything about the dynamic of the relationship reads 'love interest'.

man. just this scene right here. dean didnt wanna dir and they killed him. he wasnt ready to die and they killed him. he wanted to live a life for once and they killed him. he wanted to experience things and people differently for the first time and they killed him and the one he could experience it with. they just completely spat on deans entire character.

I'm really trying not to think about Cas when Dean says that there are people he wants to experience different feelings with for the first time. But the fact that a few episode before this one, Cain says to him that Dean will eventually kill Castiel, and that it would hurt Dean really badly, it all just screams Destiel. In my opinion, when Dean - who, with the mark of Cain, thought he was a real danger to all those he cares about - registers the fact that he could truly loose Cas, forever. I think that might've been the moment that Dean realized how much Cas really means to him.

When asked what they meant, it was revealed that all of Jensen's lines settled in their heart with a "very heavy weight". Still confused, I repeated my question. They wondered thus, and I quote directly: "What if it wasn't only Dean speaking the lines, but if Jensen felt them as deeply as he portrayed Dean to be moved by them? The actor has been through many career roles; gotten married; had a little one. How might he be affected by all of this as a person playing a very complex, in-depth character?" I thought the inquiry was very profound, and if/when I attend a convention, I plan to ask this very question. (I was given full permission.)

Basically, I think the writer made Dean's confession quite vague (e.g. mentioning 'people' instead of women) to allow different fans to take his message differently in their own favor. Destiel or not, I'm sure the writer wanted to instill more meaning to Dean's confession to stir more discussions in the social media and also to get more people's engagement to the show. Those who deny 'Destiel' completely even just as a teasing material, sorry but I have to disagree with you. It is so obvious that the writers have been including 'hints' around the idea of Destiel pretty much from S4 and it just got intensify gradually as the seasons go. (I mean they even include 'Destiel' fandom in certain episode and showed Chuck (=the God) accepted that idea lol) Basically whatever events that we see in typical male x female canon couples in typical show, have happened to Dean x Castiel. If you are to completely deny it, I have to say it's just you rejecting the idea just because you wish it didn't happen.

I’m so glad the writers decided not to cave to the shippers and stayed true to the characters and the story. He learns that he’s marked for death and instead of accepting it like he always half suicidaly did by being a hunter and hunting, he actually felt fear. Before he had never thought of life as a family man or someone who could actually be happy as opposed to someone who just had hookups and then left. By having the reality of dying thrust upon him, he understood that there was more to life than his sinful and vice driven lifestyle. That he could actually be happy and learn to experience things differently and interact with people without always thinking he would have to leave anyways so there was no point in him settling down. So many people wanted this to be about their gay ship fantasy, but if you look at the actual tragedy of the character you can see what he’s talking about.

I’m a Destiel shipper (I’d like to think I’m a casual one). I think we should all respect each other’s interpretations, seriously whether you ship Destiel or you hate it don’t be mean to each other. I don’t think that we’re being “drooling fangirls” (not all of us our girls (am not referring to me)). Some of us maybe but if we have an interpretation it’s ok, it’s just a tv show and we have that right. And don’t hate on people who hate Destiel, they also have that right, many people see them as just friends or brothers and that’s ok. Whether you see Castiel and Dean as a couple or just friends can’t we all agree to get along? (Or am I asking to much of this fandom?)

I've seen another video about this and they make a valid point... It's not necessarily about him coming out, but rather how he views himself and how much he values his life, which up to this point wasn't really the best. He finally thinks he's worth saving and is becoming really desperate to get rid of the mark and go back to saving people with his brother. If there was a scene before this in which we had a sus destiel moment then I'd side with yall. But what preceeded this scene was him saying he's scared and not ready to die.

Coming back to this time to time. Someone mentioned that the writers made this speech quite vague and I 100% agree. It's so incredibly unfair that such an emotionally heavyweight scene is stripped down to a 'romantic rlp status' by so many. From context POV, Dean has the mark of cain and talks about how he doesn’t feel ready to die. He confesses that he wishes he could experience life in a diff way. He has been going through severe depression for some time and his emotional turmoils have truly drained him. He is so tired. The 'vague' key phrases in Dean's speech that many fans clench to here are "people", "feelings" and "for the first time". I'll be mentioning the romantic aspect of this but first, for a moment, let's empty our minds of that bias. Dean's mention of 'people' can refer to people he couldn't save, people he lost because of his lifestyle, people who abandoned him because of his job or people that he cared for but had to let go. A diff scene in the show where Crowley exclaims "i deserve to be loved/i want to be loved" possibly represents another theme that runs in parallel with Dean wanting to experience life differently. After all having a relationship with people isn't solely a romantic one - it's a connection we form with other human beings, whether it's with friends, mentors, parents, lovers or family. Moreover, the word "feelings" is the trickiest of them all here. In our society unfortunately it's primarily and usually associated with romance. However, "feelings" is not just the emotion of love and/or sexual identity. Feelings can be of fear, happiness, comfort, hatred, love (not necessarily sexuality), hope, compassion, etc. Lastly, experiencing everything for the "first time" could refer to wishing that he could live his life all anew(not as a hunter). Meaning, creating these experiences in a different SETTING or ENVIRONMENT. For instance, encountering the feeling of fear for the first time not in a 'fear that this ghost will kill me' way, but in a fear of heights or fear of sharks, etc sense. Something 'normal'. The writers aren't dumb; they acknowledge that the SPN family consists of various fans and ships/theories/opinions. Thus they wrote a speech that is open for interpretation because, essentially, in the end it all comes down to perspective. We choose to believe or see things that would fit our predisposed ideas or bias (for anything in life). So looking at Dean's speech strictly from the very indirect romantic aspect - if you ship destiel, then destiel is all you'll see in this scene. If you don't ship destiel, but think Dean is bi - you won't see Cas, but you'll believe Dean is talking about his hidden sexuality. If you think Dean is straight, you could recall his past loves and how it's possible he wanted to experience them differently. And if you belong to the group that doesn't give a shit about Dean's sexuality and views this scene from the context POV (story, events, character), then you'd see this scene in its raw confession form; i.e. Dean's struggle with his current situation and rethinking his whole life. Many in the comments mention that 'coming out' is all they see and that it's so 'obvious'. I hope my comment here helps you understand 1) this is no hate for whatever you believe in, but rather 2) that it hopefully allows you to consider/see other interpretations of this scene and be respectful about other opinions besides the so claimed 'obvious and the only' perception:)
