Another great video! One tip for people doing this, loosen the fill plug first. Just incase the drain plug is stuck. It would suck to drain it and not be able to fill it lol.

Remember to remove your filler plug first. That way you don't ever get stuck with no oil because you drained first then stripped or had a issue with filler plug and couldn't remove it and now you have no oil in your rear-end.

My 2003 C5 has about 150,000 miles. I am the 2nd owner. My father bought it new. Then I inherited it from him around 75,000 miles. I am 100% certain the diff oil is original. Your video has inspired me to do something about that. Thank-you for posting it! Well, here it is a few months later. I finally got around to changing the diff oil. Thanks to your video, I did not run into any surprises. The odometer reads just over 154,000 miles. Like you said, that smell is pretty bad!

I have a c6 Z06 2006, would I expect my plugs to be that accessible. I saw another video showing the fill plug where it was very difficult to access. Thanks for the video. You sure made it look easy. 😂.

FYI. After about 3 months of changing my differential oil using this same Royal Purple, I was getting a rubbing/grinding sound from the diff when turning. After some light research, I found I wasn't the only one and had to add Genuine GM Fluid 88900330 Limited Slip Axle Lubricant Additive - 4 oz. (Of course I removed 4 oz from diff first). Now all is well.

Did the same thing within the first year of ownership. There is a lot of sliding contact between the ring and pinion gears and I have been told there is a fairly high sulfur content in the lube which accounts for the special smell. Also changed the gearbox lube which made a very noticeable difference in ease of shifting the manual transmission (almost as smooth as the manual trans on the Miata I used to have). Had some difficulty believing the owners manual which called for ATF in the manual trans.but did it anyway

Thank you Chris. That was a vital piece of information. Hope all is well out there. Getting very cold in Indiana an Michigan. Lol. I got to drive mine Saturday for a little bit. Its stumbling when I mash the gas. I had put stabile in it 3 months ago. I don't know what has happened. Ok take care.

Glad I just watched this video. I just changed my diff oil with the same exact kind as you, except I didn't realize it had friction modifier already in it and added a bottle of my own :/ Luckily I haven't taken it out to work the fluid into the clutches so I'm just going to have to drain/fill it again.

Great video man. I'm curious why you had your QuickJack on the low setting. Also, I just performed this on my 2011 GS last night and it took about 2-3/4 qt to fill it up.... might be due to the diff cooler. I recently purchased a QJ and your video was helpful in my decision to purchase it. Really sharp C5 you have there. :)

You are right Chris!!! The smell is wicked!!! 🤮 But burnt transmission fluid like what was in my 1996 Ranger is even more gross. LOL!!! I toasted my original automatic transmission the other day, 556,079 miles on it and the original 4.0L engine. I am the original owner. I replaced it with one from a salvage yard. I almost lost it several times swapping them. 🤣 The engine still runs strong as the day it was new. The trans going bad is my fault because I towed an F-250 out of a ditch a few days ago that was WAY beyond my weight capacity.

I bought my C6 that was 8 years old with 6500 miles on it...it would make a grinding noise in the diff during low speed tight turns...changing the diff fluid and using the GM posi fluid cured it immediately...

To save you some money super tech diff fluid is 8 bucks a qourt. At Walmart and it’s full synthetic fluid with the friction modifiers it’s also a licensed product I just changed mine out with it I was going to use royal purple but 30 year experienced mechanic told me super tech fully synthetic was just as good
