How to Change C5 Corvette Differential Fluid

How to change C5 Corvette differential fluid is straight forward. I used Mobil1 75W-90 with Limited Slip Friction Modifier. I should have changed the differential fluid in my C5 Corvette when I first got the car, but it's something that's commonly overlooked. If you haven't changed the differential fluid in your C5 Corvette, now is a good time to do so.

Looks like you might have a leaky rear diff based on the amount of sludge under your diff. Might want to steam clean the underside and inspect for leaks after about 100 miles or so.
@YellowVette04
@YellowVette04 3 жыл бұрын
@@adamsharrow7951 I noticed that afterwards as well. I cleaned it up best I could and will definitely do so. Fluid did come out of the fill plug, so it must not be much if it's leaking. The tag on the fill plug wasn't there so it possibly was done before and possibly overfilled.

Anyone looking to buy a c5 or c6, plan to change all the fluids first thing when you get the car. Most of these cars sit and people think in terms of miles for service. Change all fluids every 3 years at least.

This is such an informative video! I will be doing the same service today! One question tho, I noticed that you have some type of leak going on the diff around the rear cv axle. My 98 C5 suffers the same problem. Did you ever figure out where the leak is from?
@YellowVette04
@YellowVette04 3 жыл бұрын
The leaky butt is a common issue. I noticed it too, but the existing oil level in the diff was plenty since it started coming out of the fill port when I opened it. I cleaned up the case as best I could with brake cleaner and I'll keep an eye on it moving forward.

@@YellowVette04 I plan to do the same. and yah, leaky butt is very common, I wonder if there is any permanent fix to that? I plan on getting them all resealed when I replace my clutch, since the torque tube and all that good stuff needs to come out any way in order to get the new clutch back in.

Super late comment. These cars are getting old, and the rubber seals are getting crusty. Leaking is normal until you replace the seals. However, seeing as you have to pull quite a bit to get to the seals, why not just do a new ring+pinion and bearings? 👌
