The same thing happened at my elementary school once. A dull cutting surface that burned the wood. In your case, dust was getting stuck, and friction helped with the rest.

"Dimes to doughnuts" was "Dollars to doughnuts" when I grew up in midwest in the 60's. The doughnuts referenced were not the tasty treats but rather proxy for zero, the number, as a doughnut looks like a zero. Fantastic build. I am glad your folks liked it.

Yeah the original phrase is "Dollars to Doughnuts." Never heard the dimes thing. The Daily Nevada State Journal, February 1876: "Whenever you hear any resident of a community attempting to decry the local paper... it's dollars to doughnuts that such a person is either mad at the editor or is owing the office for subscription or advertising."

For the measurement debate, I love the metric system. I didn't realize that 1cm^3 is 1 ml. There's no equivalent in imperial. I started using it more with my 3D printer and started liking it more. I also actively use the imperial system daily as well with things like cooking, weight, height of a person, and lumber

I'm 67 and have made a living working with wood all my life. I have a mahogany lap desk, with a secret compartment, that my granddad (furniture maker) made for my grandmother. It was the last thing he made before going off to die in WW2. Make things. Pass them on. When your son goes off to college, or travelling or whatever when he's young, offer to store that piece you made for him. Give it back to him later in his life and maybe he will pass it on one day. One thing that you make, no matter how you think it turned out, means more than a million factory made pieces of junk. Good luck with your journey and have fun!

I'm from Ireland and my father is a carpenter. We use Metric here, but I grew up using Imperial because that's what carpenters and some other trades use. I'm currently a welder/fabricator and back to using Metric and I can say there is definitely a time and place for both. Imperial is much easier to fathom and remember while working but I need to keep running back and forth to my measurements to make sure I'm cutting the right millimetre. And when we buy timber it's in inches. Steel is by mm.

I'm not sure if you'll read this comment, but here it goes: While epoxy resin is rather flame retardant, it does break down over time (especially as a dust such as from the CNC), and when it breaks down, it causes heat to build. You need 4 elements for a fire. Heat, oxygen, fuel, and a chemical reaction. That dust collector more than likely had left over resin sitting in the bag that was already heating up and causing a chemical reaction. When the new dust was introduced, you basically made an atomized fuel source with oxygen, which caused the fire to shoot out the side. I think your best option, since you work with epoxy resin frequently, is to keep your equipment as clean and empty as possible. I hope this helps because I'd hate to see or hear of something bad happening to you or your shop! Love the videos!

14:52 I had a second cousin thrice removed. He finally took the hint and didn't come back a fourth time. If you're actually curious, the "second" part is distance in your family, so "first cousin" is the child of your aunt/uncle, "second cousin" is the grandchild of your parents aunt/uncle (ie. same generation as you), "third cousin" is the great-grandchild of your grandparents' aunt/uncle (again, same generation as you). "Removed" is going up or down a generation, so the parents or children of your second cousins are "second cousins, once removed", and the grandchildren of your second cousins are your "second cousins, twice removed". So a second cousin thrice removed would be the great-grandson of your second cousin. On a family tree, you can think of the "second" part as moving horizontally across the family tree and "removed" as moving vertically.
