It takes real skill to make a character so hate-able that I grind my teeth every time they’re on screen and this actress had this in spades. She chewed every piece of scenery she was given in the best/worst way and I hated her so much. Phenomenal actress and I hope she gets tons more work after this.

As a Catholic myself and still practicing, Midnight Mass in no way offended me. I thought this show masterfully presented how deceptive and evil people can be when scripture is is twisted to benefit a corrupt desire we want so badly. Unfortunatly this is a actual thing that happens, no in a way Midnight Mass is not offending the church or christians but highlighting a dark past every community can carry but also how we need to follow our own instincts.

Well it was kinda anti- Catholic. It was clearly done by an Atheist who believes , Catholics are just guillable and will fall for anything. For example when the Vampire walks into the Church and the priest says this is the Angel most of the congregation buys it and drinks Bev's poison. That thing looked nothing like an Angel. We would've been pulling out our crucifixes and running out the door. Maybe grabbing some holy water on the way. Also Riley Finn was I guess supposed to be the Catholic turned Atheist hero. A guy who gets drunk, kills a girl, and after 4 yrs in jail goes home and sponges off his parents. When he should be out there looking for a job to help his struggling family he's trying to get into some pregnant woman's pants. The beat thing he did was set himself on fire. If I'm not mistaken I believe before doing that he tells the woman to keep on rolling and not to go back and try to save anyone. Yeah some hero.

I just had never heard it expressed so eloquently and it really connected with me. I believe the same way. It’s strange because Erin desperately needed to believe the way she did because of the loss of her baby and I understand that inclination since I lost my mom in January. It’s hard to reconcile the belief that you will never see the person you loved the most ever again.

Yeah, it was very tastefully done. Simultaneously, it has probably the best take on a self-proclaimed atheist I've seen, where they aren't just dunking on religion the whole time or aren't a purely vile piece of shit who's destined to get killed off or converted by the end. As someone who relates more to that position, there are scenes in Midnight Mass (namely conversations between Riley and Father Paul) that are nearly identical to conversations I've had with my pastor father, and both positions in the show are presented essentially in their best form. There aren't really any "straw men", which is great. The key to making this work, I think, is that a lot of questions are brought up about these things but nothing that the show gives us as a definitive "right answer" to these real-world mysteries. It kinda leaves that up to the viewer.

This was almost a complete binge watch for me. As a religious person, I appreciate that the show that came from a professed atheist didn't make a mockery of his Catholic upbringing, but gave reasonable critiques of a community following blind faith and false prophets. And, this review from Chris is much more reverent of the show and the art than one I read from Vox that totally missed the point. I very rarely find myself disagreeing with Stuckmann and this review is no exception.

I read that vox article, totally agree the author missed the point, as they usually do. People are pretty accepting when a show uses Catholicism as a tool to critique “blind faith and false prophets”. I wonder if these people would be as comfortable had Islam been used as a tool. Would they still be objective or would they claim it was making a mockery and type “not all muslims”? Either way, I really enjoyed the show. I just don’t think people would carry such liberal thoughts had it not been Catholicism.

The last few minutes of this great series was the most traumatic and beautiful to me. I couldn't stop crying for ALL OF THEM as they waited for the sunrise. The hymn moved me - and I'm a Buddhist! But because of my faith, I cherish all life while it lasts and celebrate going into the next life. The sheriff's and the priest's scenes were masterful. Between my tears and heartache, I watched cinematic perfection. Now I realize why there can't be a season two...this one gave me so much closure, introspection, remorse and calm. How can you top that? I don't want a season two without these characters; it would be empty. I loved all these characters, even Mrs. Keen, and to see them go...I'm good with it...I'm satisfied..."My cup runneth over."

I just finished watching this with my dad, and we absolutely loved it. Mike Flanagan continues to be my favorite horror director. I’m from a very religious background, and while I still consider myself a follower of God and Christ, I’ve distanced myself from the church because of so much of the exact blind devotion I saw in this show and I’ve seen throughout my life. This whole show very respectfully highlighted both good and bad sides of the church and religion, and the people on each side of all of it. I loved how Bev Keane had a verse to justify every thing she did, and my dad underlined it very well to me when he said that common line, “Even the devil can quote scripture.” This show was full of amazing monologues, often delivered by Father Paul, but my favorite has to be from the Sheriff when he told Sarah why he moved to the island. What an amazing show. I can’t wait to see what Mike Flanagan does next.

BEST to go in knowing nothing, you'll start guessing very early on and likely be right, but it's still more enjoyable that way! I saw a trailer for this before everyone started talking about it and I decided the trailer looked awful. Now I feel I must be missing something. Mind you, I loved Haunted Hill House or whatever it was called and I know he reuses the same actors but the trailer just looked really bad to me. Of course so did Squid Game until everyone started talking about it so I've started watching it and was crying like a bytch episode 6 last night.

I watched this show not knowing what I went into. I'm Christian (Lutheran) so it said a priest on an island, and I was like, "eh, why not" And wow. What a show... It really highlighted some of the issues with religion. This coming from a Christian. Through time, so many people twist and use religion for their own agenda. This show really digs into that. We all meet the "super Christian" person, who is SUPER judgemental and super one-sided. This show is about not just following, but think for yourself. What a great show.

Erin's (Kate Siegel) last monologue made me tear up. I've felt that way about life, religion, and our relationship with the universe for so long but have never come close to describing those feelings and beliefs as perfectly as her character did. It's a scene I know I will revisit many, many times. You can tell everything in this show, top to bottom, was treated with much care and precision to create EXACTLY what the director had envisioned. Hats off to all involved.

It was well written, well directed, but happening when it did in the show (when we knew enough that he could have just said "I think you know why it would be suicide for me to investigate the church") was just too too much...

As a Christian and huge fan of Mike Flanagan, this has to be my favorite thing he’s ever done. This show dealt with serious moral dilemmas and very hard questions that we all struggle with in such a graceful and transparent way. It was beautiful, heartbreaking, and I was glued to the screen the entire time. It’s been a long time since I forgot where I was while watching a movie or show. At times it seemed like it could have been a bit slow with the long monologues and conversations, but it didn’t feel that way at all. The actors were phenomenal and really brought it to life!
